A few updates:

While GH3 will come with Metallica's One, and RB will come with Enter Sandman, One will be downloadable for RB.

In case some people thought there wouldn't be any songs for girls to sing recently added to the RB's list of songs are Celebrity Skin by Hole, I Think I'm Paranoid by Garbage, Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the most exciting of the new songs, even though it's mostly not sung by a girl, is Wave of Mutilation by the Pixies!

Among the downloadable songs will be 18 songs by The Grateful Dead (including "Casey Jones", "Sugar Magnolia", "Touch of Grey", "Truckin'", and "Uncle John's Band").

Of the 40 songs that will be on the release, there are still 10 yet to be announced.

If you think you're destined for Rock Band stardom, you're in luck; you can test your skills and participate in the nationwide casting call at MTV's Rock Band "Rock Off" events. Any rockers without stage fright who play on the Rock Band tour bus stage will be captured on tape for consideration by MTV casting directors. Two bands will get picked and flown to NYC to spend face-time with a real rock band for official rocker training. Then they'll play on MTV's TRL, and the winning outfit will get to open for a surprise super group at the Rock Band launch concert.

7 songs left to announced (since they said the final count would be 40). As for the new ones. Black Hole Sun is awesome, but I think Spoonman would have been even better. GH3 has Suck My Kiss, much better than Dani California. GH3 has Rock N Roll All Nite. I wish they were switched. I'd rather just play guitar for Detroit Rock City and sing along to Rock N Roll All Nite....As for the tour, my Cousin graduates from Virginia Tech on the 14th and my sister graduates down here in Miami from Barry on the 15th. I would never miss my sister's graduation, but to make matters worse, my cousin will be siphoning off family attendees with his graduation on the 14th and his ceremony also includes his commissioning into the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant on the 15th, and his older brother who is a major in the Army will be swearing him in, so I definitely have to support my sister. Ironically, October 17-21 I'll actually be in San Francisco....

That trailer was butter....

The rumors of Rock Band's $200 price tag have been greatly... over estimated. While retailers like Amazon and Gamestop were listing the game with a tentative price of two Benjamins plus tax, MTV has now made it official. Rock Band for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 will retail for a more affordable $169.99, a price that includes the game, a drum kit, the microphone and a guitar controller. MTV games blogger Stephen Totilo broke the news earlier today of the final price, also tossing us a release date bone of November 23rd, making for an extra painful Black Friday shopping experience.

PlayStation 2 owners get a lick of good news, too, with Rock Band for that last-gen console bumped up to December 10th of 2007 for $159.99. Me? I'll be rocking out with the taste of turkey sandwiches and cranberry sauce the day after Thanksgiving on my PS3. Finally, something to be thankful for.

It's announced for PS2, which'll reach a wider audience than just Xbox360 and PS3, but without online play or DLC, eh...

Orange Crush by REM was announced. I'm going to have to give them the benefit of the doubt here that this song just really works for this game. REM has alot of songs I would have preferred, with It's The End of the World As We Know It high up there, but also Bitterswet Me, Crush With Eyeliner, Finest Workshop, Pop Song 89, Radio Free Europe, Radio Song (which would provide the added benefit of the singer rapping KRS-One's lyrics at the end of the song), Star 69, and of course, What's the Frequency, Kenneth? Orange Crush doesn't crack my Top Ten EM songs for Rock Band list.

shit, thanks for that, newt. given the release date, im tempted to go with amazong for this one, free shipping and i dont have to look everywhere...just gotta pick which system to run with. gunsmithx is grabbing it for PS3, and again, while id like to do the same (made some cool friends on kotaku/PSN), im still tempted to go with 360 just to keep the possibility of MH, skeet, DoJ, Ly etc for gatherings. off to that thread....

Some comments:

I am really happy they are putting Next To You by the Police. It was not a hit for the Police, but it's one of my favorite tracks on my favorite Police album, their debut Outlandos d'Amour. The Police have tons of hit they could have used (Message in a Bottle and Synchronicity II were already used in previous GH games), but they went with a lesser known song that is perfect for this game.

Train Kept A-Rollin' by Aerosmith is also an unexpected treat. A non-hit from their unsuccessful debut album.

Ballroom Blitz by SWEET, not by Krokus like in GH 80's. The Krokus version was fun for all the guitar indulgence, but for drums and a singer, the original is the way to go.

Flirtin' With Disaster by Molly Hatchet and Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws, it's nice to have some southern rock, but what the people really want is Sweet Home Alabama by Skynyrd and I personally want Whipping Post or some other Duane Allman era Allman Brothers song.

Foreplay/Long Time by Boston: The first half of this song (Foreplay) is going to be funny as fuck for the guitar and drums. Ballsy to include a song that leaves the singer out for like 4 minutes.

Anyone else been to a Best Buy yet to try out the DEMO?

I must say, it rocks.

The guitar felt a bit off, but it seems that someone had already killed it for the most part. None of the downstrokes really worked. No clicky noise when you strum...but that'll be easy to get used to. The positioning of the buttons seems off, but that's because of the larger control...again, it'll be easy to grow used to.

The drums were fucking fun, and I'm sure I looked like an idiot wailing away at them. It's pretty easy to get carried away and just start hitting shit at random, haha. No bass pedal for the demo, but there's an in game message about it being in the full version.

No mic love for the demo (at least not 'round these here parts).

Ok...back into obscurity.

I took the liberty of emboldening the newly announced songs that make my head aslode.

Also, not to be undone by themselves, they got the only possible bonus song that could be cooler than Trogdor. Unlockable as a bonus song will be Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld. If we get together to play thing, this is the one song I might be able to sing.

Since Rock Band was first announced by Harmonix and MTV Games in March, the developers have made no secret of their ambitious plans for downloadable content. As the game's release has drawn closer, information about those plans has trickled out. At the E3 Media and Business Summit, Harmonix said it would be offering full downloadable albums from artists like The Who, with more tracks from Metallica, The Grateful Dead, and The Ramones among those that gamers could add on to the retail game.

With Rock Band set for release next Tuesday, Harmonix today finally took the wraps off its downloadable content model today. The studio has apparently heard complaints regarding the mandatory three-song bundles and $6.25 price point adopted by the Guitar Hero franchise's downloadable content, and is giving gamers a bit of a break.

Rock Band will still feature pre-selected three-song packs for download, but they will instead cost $5.49 (440 Microsoft points on Xbox 360). Songs will also be available individually for $1.99. Harmonix has said future songs will be sold individually for as little as $.99 (80 Microsoft points), and as much as $2.99 (240 points). However, "the vast majority" will come in at the standard $1.99 price point. The developer did not say how much full-album downloads would be, or when the first albums would be released.

Harmonix also detailed its release schedule for the first five weeks after Rock Band launches. The opening week will be highlighted by track packs from Metallica, The Police, and Queens of the Stone Age, with individual songs from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foreigner, T-Rex, and more. Downloaded tracks will be integrated into all of the game's modes, and will be playable online only if all players have purchased the songs.

Of that list, I am interested in The Police pack, the Bowie pack, the punk pack, the CCR song, the T Rex song, the Weezer song, and maybe the Pretenders song. I'm hoping that the Metallica pack's song are indicative that they are saving all of the songs of the album Master of Puppets for a complete album release. Battery and the title track alone would be worth the purchase price.
