Hondo's hits the Gym 200(X)

so this effort's finally going public. Eli wanted to do an official "Hondo's Biggest Loser" sort've competition locally, but with varying odds on people's specific goals. we'll come to that later, i just want to try to iron out details from here, if possible.

so far, myself, Eli (StuntDobulePornStar), La Lindsay & Senshik have been going regularly, with BigChiefSlapaho, bishopcruz, archangel, Rev. Jax and possibly gunsmithx, spiffytee and Panch showing interest. the kicker is, at least for registration, we need a valid member ID for our apt. complex, pas that its like $45 for 3/months, or way less for 1. i tend to put down $100 for a whole year (pretty cheap, i think) but im thinking most of us should try a month or two regular-like, see how you like it and if its worth staying/maintaining before sinking $ into it. If you're local & down for this, we can try to find more valid ID's to use just long enough to get a member pass, long as you're genuinely interested. you know how it is, people seem to show up more early on for these things when its a group.

That said, i need to work out a schedule. Right now, Chief, bish and a few others have said Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8pm works for them. i typically go for about an hour, but we need more time to make sure everyone's learning proper form and get a full routine done safely. Plus, if we're out at 9 something (instead of 10 when they close) we have the option of going for a run down 97th avenue, or on other days, take advantage of the complex's jacuzzi and sauna, both of which are amazing post-workout. and i can get to work on time.

Since the goal for many of you is weight loss, i cant stress the importance of cardio here - if you're not going to run/jog afterwards, we need to split up and have some people in the cardio room certain days for treadmill/elliptical/biking etc. I assure you, we stick with this regularly, and everyone keeps an eye on their diet the way some of you've been doing, you'll see good results. i also wanna congratulate bishopcruz, who since februrary, has lost 106 goddamn pounds as of this week - much love to him and the momentum this has created.

Anyway, we can track progress here if anyone wants. Meantime, id like to get people setup this weekend if at all possible, but i need to know if M.W. & F at 8p works for everyone, and if not, what does? i really dont wanna be calling/hounding people anymore; let's set a schedule and if you're there, good. :FHD:

Its a damn shame that I cannot participate, but I must inform that Its been 2 weeks since i decided to finally (for real this time).

First, comes the detox part of my plan. Stop eating junk. Chocolate, hamburguers, and so... Wich I was eating (and I mean the chocolate here) almost on a daily basis. So far, so good. Except from this weekend were I ate some shit. Not that I went berserk and eat all day. Just a little bit. But with tomorrow coming, everythings going back to following the plan.

Step two, its -of course- start exercising my body again. Runing and pump in, in the gym. The other day I lift 100 kg with my legs. I know its a little bit too much, but my legs are the only thing that keeps strength right now. I have to flatten my stomach and train my arms.

I have my Tae Kwon Do class Monday and Wednesday from 7:30-8:15 and on Friday from 7:00-7:45, as well as Saturday morning 9:00am-9:45am. So MWF 8pm does not work for me. If we said 9pm, I could high-tail it out there, but what I'd really like to do is Tuesday and Thursday, and even weekend stuff.

had to be a tae-kwon-do-ho to mess it up

jax: we've been doing 9pm, and its absolutely not working. there's not enough time for everyone to get a good workout and be monitored for proper form, and i cant join in the cardio afterwards, for one - some guys (eli & chief) do racquetball before the gym, but bish & others seem down to run afterwards, which doesnt necessarily require my presence, but a group helps. besides, you're not going to be good for both of these things after any kind of martial art, either way.

gym closes at 8p on saturday & sunday. im not entirely against tues/thurs/weekend, but i cant justify it if the greater number of people opt for the earlier schedule...ill need more replies here.

boogie - did you squat that, or press that? i max squatting at like right under 250lbs, so i think that's pretty good man! and yeah, diet is absolutely at least 50% of this, if not more. that's a good plan.

gun - ok, but how serious are you? i mean, i kinda didnt figure you in originally cause you're already paying for a gym, but if you're down, again, we can hunt down a member ID and make it happen.

You asked for my schedule, this is the one I've been telling you about for a year in regards this idea. If MWF 8pm works for everyone else, you guys should do it.

Good luck to all y'all FL types in your quest for fitness! I'll have to be w/ metalheart on this one and cheer from afar.

I've been thinking about doing a detox for a while now. Just to get all the junk outta my body. Some people swear by them, but there are just as many people who say detoxes are worth bupkiss.

I've been one procrastinating, lay-zee SOB this past year in regards to working out. I just hate exercising. I mean, there's a new gym literally down my street and I refuse to go. My Wii Fit has been collecting dust since November. I'm jiggly. Not good. Self motivation has never been my strongsuit, but maybe I'll get my shit together sooner than later. Hopefully. :FHD:

im with haku, ive known guys that swore by detoxing but i think that road leads to way too much fiber and uh, enemas? i dunno. personally, i drink a big bottle of water a day, and my diet keeps me regular as well. the only concern id have for things building up would be vitamins that arent water-soluble, and even then i try to stay around the daily allowance level. id wanted to make a vitamin thread, come to think of it.

Jax - wait, so youd be on the road by 815, then? if you're confident you could join us by 9, it might be worth your while to get at least one major muscle group in, and then some cardio, if youve got enough left in you after your training. either way, ive clearly not locked in everyone's schedules here yet, so nothing's set in stone.

Updaticus?! How is it going?

really good, actually.

bish has been really pushing himself, chief & eli are regulars to, between the gym and the vollyeball courts. everyone's sort've challenging themselves/each other, which is cool cause i know for myself, im lifting more than i nearly wouldve otherwise. now that we've got a set schedule, its been pretty awesome...the only bitch of it is, getting out & doing some cardio with enough time for me to run to work, heh.

the girls (LL & Sen) started as well and were equally awesome with it, but both fell the fuck off last week, we're hoping for a comeback on monday. it feels really good going as a group, or at least going and knowing others are there/on their way (its funny when im here on the boards and its like 8:20 and im getting calls and text insults taunting me to get over to there).

That's so awesome! <3 You guys rock!

My sister and few other people here are interested in doing group workouts, whether it's just walking or something more hardcore. Our apt complex doesn't have a gym, so we'd prolly have to get a membership somewhere. Right now time and means don't support doing that, so we're hoping to figure out something cheap/free and that doesn't conflict with schedules.

hmm...well, walking/running, stairs, swimming (for a few more months, anyway) can be done for free and they're great cardio.

as far as strength training, you can always start if anyone has a weight set, but having shopped for gyms out in fort worth, id say the Y is prolly your cheapest option, once you're comfortable enough to maintain it. like most places, you can try it out for free if you're ever inclined, last i checked.

well, it went pretty good for the most part - mostly myself, Eli and bishop, who last weigh-in was somewhere around 285, a massive loss from last february's 420 pounds (!), so much love & props to him, he's had an amazing year.

I, on the other hand, totally failed my year's resolution of gaining weight - fire dept tests & necessary cardio dropped me down to 152, and i just got back to about 160. im thinking of dong a high-calorie diet to try again next year (its clearly the only missing component) but duads tells me i shouldnt focus so much on the # for my goal, even if it is just 10 more pounds, as ive seen significant gains this year regardless - working out with eli, we've challenged the crap out of each other and ive met a personal goal and benched 250 pounds last week, only about 3 clean reps so far but its a new max anyway, which is awesome. im either going to have to push harder for my weight goal or make peace with where im at, as i need to change up my workout back to more full-body/core routines, i need to make sure im not just building showy/non-practical strength.

towards that end (and the fact im leaving an awesome gym), ive been looking at all kinds of stuff to try out, and found a few things i thought id post here:

no gym workout

The Bodyweight 200

This 12-station, 200-rep program burns fat and builds muscle -- in about 60 minutes a week

Directions: Do this workout 3 times a week -- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for example. Perform the exercises as a circuit, doing 1 set of each movement for the prescribed number of repetitions. Complete them in the order shown, without resting between exercises. Too easy? Rest 1 minute and repeat the circuit.

The Workout

1. Prisoner squats (30 reps)

2. Pushups (30 reps)

3. Jumps (10 reps)

4. Swiss-ball leg curls (10 reps)

5. Swiss-ball pikes (10 reps)

6. Stepups (20 reps)

7. Pullups or chinups (5 reps)

8. Forward lunges (30 reps)

9. Tucked-elbow pushups (20 reps)

10. Inverted rows (15 reps)

11. Prisoner squats (15 reps)

12. Chinups (5 reps)

next year's goals will include a more parkour/gymnast type of build, focusing on strength but heavy on core and anarobic cardio as well, both for fire and hiking/traveling etc endeavors. i dont know that i can meetup with bish, eli and chief at a neutral gym like we were hoping (cant find much in my price range, except what's here at FIU), but im looking to take Rev. Jax on as the next project, we'll see if he's down after the holidays.

You cats and your Gym regiments finally inspired my arse to join a gym. In order to lose the monster weight I've put on though my PT has told me to fuck off Meat, potatoes and Bread(pretty much the things aside from Hondos and the House of Garret that make life worth living), so I'm a sad, salad eating Panda...

awesome, man. where're you at, and what's your target weight? he give you a good regiment?

i dont know how your metabolism is normally, but if you soldier on & stick religiously with whatever strength/cardio regiment you're given, you wont have to punish yourself forever. even then, its easier to get away with a lot of what you like eating when you're exercising/sleeping right.

ill see if i can get bish in here, he's become a master of figuring out how to get away with fast foods & such - i.e., get a chicken sandwhich and toss the bun, etc.

We haven't put together a regiment yet, she wants to see my diet and whatnot first so I gotta put that together. Would love to hear what George has to say because good christ, seeing what he's achieved is part of what inspired me. I'm looking at hitting the gym monday/Wedensday/Saturday at sparrowfart, with a Thursday night session as well. Looking at a lot of Cardio and weights, with two dedicated resistance sessions a week(one of which will be with my PT on Saturday).

I actually really enjoyed my salad husband. I had lettuce, capsicum, cucumber, carrot, cottage cheese and smoked chicken. It was lovely.

We've stuck pretty much to the days we set so far. Have a ways to go, me with 25-30 kilos id like to loose, Jay with 20. Both of us wanting to get fit, and healthy.

Our PT is amazing. She had a stroke when she was a few months pregnant, and told everyone shed be running a marathon in 2 months whilse her left side was paralised and she was wheelchair bound. She totally did - shes all kinds of inspiring and focused. And shes going to punish the hell out of us!

sorry, to each their own, playlist-wise. heh.

yeah, gym is a lot better - once you have the form down proper - with your own music. running/cardio etc, i find its absolutely essential.

fell the fuck off between/after the move. jax's place at the beach has an alright fitness center, but im looking to join the gym at the university here again to get a few days in of regular strength training. the nearby boxing gym is good but im not sure how our memberships are gonna work, so im setting up the stand for the heavy bag on our balcony this week or so, and im looking to start doing stairs again around the same time. i need a good week or so of running the coast/stairs to get back into gear, then the weight vest should be a unique challenge, as this building's about 19 stories or so....cant wait till i can comfortably manage that again.

in related news, my efforts to put on weight are gonna fly right out the freakin window, but ill be stronger either way. what you gonna do.

PS looking to also try out this P90X program soon - despite it being infomercial-y, guys on other forums who're in similar shape have used it to change things up/shock their system, and gotten their asses kicked for it, so it sounds like fun. as long as its used towards thsi end, instead of the nonsense "GET RIPPED IN 90 DAYS" tagline shit, it might be worth the effort.

sorry arnah, but i agree w/ nick costanza on that playlist. yeesh

my brother-in-law is into P90X. that shit is hardcore. but he's an iraq war vet and way into fitness, so it's likely right up your ally. it's pretty cool and you can choose different options w/ how you interface and is fairly customizable for a DVD workout.

and in requests for self-motivation. i've had a gym literally four blocks down the street from my house for about a year and have yet to join. i'm one hard dude to get motivated. so feel free to txt msg me randomly and call me fatty until i join and get my arse in gear. i'm only about 10-15lbs overweight, but i've lost almost any muscle tone as i've been one couch potato/Internet surfing mo'fo for all of 2009 and most of 2008. :???:

see, i got into the habit of going solo based on my career choice, but if you dont have some goal like that...its admittedly hard, especially starting up, without a partner. one of my first gym partners had an agreement with me that if i was gonna bail, i had to show up to the gym and say so...kept me coming in, anyway.

im looking to meetup Chief and possibly bishop (that bum) here at the university in the coming weeks. and yeah, good to hear more feedback on that program - im looking to do more core/bodyweight exercises like pullups, dips etc rather than the traditional muscle isolation ones...does that sound about right for what you saw of the program

i think there's like 12 or so different workouts w/ P90X. most of it seemed to be equipment free. it was last summer when he actually lent me the DVDs and i was all elwood blues--fuck this noise--wheni perused 'em. so my recall isn't 100%. it's mainly timed exercises w/ increased repetitions and some alternate exercises or positioning as your level increases. some did use free weights and i do want to say one used a pull-up bar, but i could be wrong...

a random txt msg i'd take as motivational, but on here. . . it's just mean. meanie.
