Daniel Bruhl cast as Baron Zemo

nPXLxix.jpg

Some people thought that the big bad of 2016's Captain America: Civil War would be Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man given the nature of the original comic series, but a recently revealed casting call may have confirmed earlier speculation that a major Marvel villain would be joining the fray.

According to a casting call on MovieCastingCall.org, Inglourious Basterds actor Daniel Brühl will play Baron Zemo. Bruhl was officially announced by Marvel Studios as part of the cast in November, but his role at that time was unspecified.

Also of interest in the casting call is the plot of the movie, which if accurate would confirm speculation that Captain America: Civil War's macguffin, so to speak, is the idea of a Superhuman Registration Act. It's important to note that this plot synopsis also says that S.H.I.E.L.D. is in charge of the Superhuman Registration Act, which is intriguing given the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Here is how MovieCastingCall.org describes the plot:

"In
Captain America: Civil War
, billionaire Tony Stark is pitted against Captain America aka Steve Rogers in an ethical face-off over the U.S. government's Superhuman Registration Act, which requires all superpowered individuals register their powers and report to S.H.I.E.L.D."

Two weeks after Captain America: Civil War commenced principal photography in Atlanta, Georgia, Marvel Studios has finally announced that production is underway. In addition the first official synopsis which vaguely confirms what we already knew, we also have a full cast list that confirms Captain America's new Avengers team from Age of Ultron will all return. Furthermore, Paul Rudd will be reprising his Ant-Man role as Scott Lang, while actor William Hurt will make a surprising return as General Thaddeus Ross from The Incredible Hulk. Check out the full press release below!

Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. The film returns Chris Evans as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

After his debut in Marvel’s Ant-Man on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in Captain America: Civil War.

The film also includes outstanding additional cast, including Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/ Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Martin Freeman.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Nice Scars! Frank Grillo Unmasks As 'Crossbones' On CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Set

When we last saw Brock Rumlow, he had been left horribly scarred after a battle with The Falcon. Well, Frank Grillo has now arrived on the set of Captain America: Civil War in full costume as Crossbones, and we get to see what those scars look like when he's unmasked...

As you can see, Frank Grillo has been spotted on the set of Captain America: Civil War minus his Crossbones mask, giving us a look at his scars as a result. Of course, based on what happened inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, almost his entire face will be covered with them in the movie. However, the make-up has probably only been applied to his eyes here because they can be seen through the slits in the mask. Either way, it gives us an idea as to what we should expect, and his desire for revenge becomes easier to understand! What do you guys think? Sound off below!

Marvel Studios has released footage forCaptain America: Civil War.

Debuting at this weekend’s Disney D23 Expo, the footage gave attendees the first footage of Marvel’s hotly-anticipated film. As a sequel to Captain America: The Winter Solider, and a miniatureAvengers event in its own right, Civil War looks to be one of Marvel’s biggest efforts yet.

While Marvel hasn't (yet) released the footage online, ComicBook.com was on-site to watch the sizzle reel. A rough description of the footage follows:

(Below are descriptions of what the folks saw at D23. Bullets, if you will. Nothing completely spoilery, but if you wanna go in blind don't click)

* A scene showed Captain and America and The Falcon fighting crossbones, with Black Widow aiding in the background.

* Another scene revealed the Falcon's pet falcon, Redwing.

* Another shot revealed Black Widow and Hawkeye fighting. Black Widow asks, "Are we still friends?" To which Hawkeye responds, "Depends on how hard you hit me." This confirms that Black Widow and Hawkeye will be on opposing sides of Civil War's conflict.

* A scene showed Bucky Barnes trapped in a cage.

* Another shot showed Black Panther in action for the first time, popping his claws out.

* A scene shows Paul Rudd's Ant-Man being brought into Captain America's faction. Star-struck, Ant-Man stammers, "I know you know a lot of super… people, so I wanted to say thinks for thanking of me. Thanks for thinking of me.”

* Tony Stark and Steve Rogers debate their opposing ideologies, with Stark saying, "Without boundaries, we're no better than them."

Where is Thor and Hulk in this line-up? Are they not gonna be in it? Daredevil is gonna be in the mix, too? Jeez, this thing is gonna be huge! Someone should post a line-up pic like this and keep it updated - so we can see just how many characters this movie is gonna have! MADNESS! I hear Red Skull is coming back, too!

So glad to see General Ross again. Glad to see something carry over from that Hulk film. Maybe Abomination will show. Since Baron Zemo is confirmed - maybe they'll have a Thunderbolts subplot and we'll see a roster of super baddies!

Thor is apparently going to be busy with his own shit in Thor 3 so he can't come party with all his buddies in their stupid dick war. Hopefully a lame-ass robot clone of him doesn't show up to kill a black guy.

Hulk probably won't appear, though I wouldn't rule it out.

Looks like they're shooting scenes for Civil War over in Germany and Mark Ruffalo has been seen out in Berlin w/ Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and Daniel Bruhl. (Captain America, Falcon and Baron Zemo)

Not only is Joss Whedon saying no to a Planet Hulk or World War Hulk spin-off, but I read that James Gunn gave an emphatic, "HELL NO!" to the Hulk in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

From what I've gathered, seems like instead of Nitro 'igniting' (you like that?) the SRA, it might be a massive Hulk rampage that sets everything off.
