wasnt kevin smith doing a fletch one? you know, i never saw any of those movies, come to think of it.

i will break bread with any man who voted ghostbusters 3, with his heart. also, im begining to thnk indy 4 is an industry inside joke or somethin.

I would've voted Ghostbusters 3, but 2 was so horrible, and they're all old and fat now, Egon is barely recognizable, Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray I think would be brilliant, but do we even want to see Sigourney again? Is Rick Morannis even alive still? I dont know, I'm just afraid that a 3rd would further kill the classic that was the first.

And Nick, you should watch both Fletch and Fletch Lives, fucking brilliant films. Chevy Chases' best work in my eyes.

Ima have to look them up, then.

Aw, 2 wasnt so bad...it was just....goofy. See, i thought them all lookin a wreck (nah, i dont think we need sigourney, necessarily) works for this, cause the script/idea id heard was the old, washed-up Ghostbusters training the next generation of them kinda thing...thought that could work, and hijinx could ensue.

Now that you mention it, i dont know that Rick Moranis is alive, either.

I voted for GB3.

Kevin Smith's Fletch Won wasn't going to star Chevy Chase, it was to star Jason Lee (surprise surprise!) as Fletch. I would like to see Lee is a non ViewAskewiverse movie that didn't suck. So far my count is Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky and The Incredibles as his only decent features.

a sequel for shaun of the dead would be sweet...

They mentioned "From Dusk Till Shaun" at the time the first one was out, but I'm pretty sure that was just a gag, besides if there was a Sequel you wouldn't get the same duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, at least not the dialogue anyway.

I voted for Evil Dead 4, the first movie now exists in a world of it's own, so another one would be completing a trilogy of sorts. If they follow on from the ending of the Medievil Dead, a post big budget Post Apocalyptic Evil Dead would be cool, but the question is would it still be funny?

Do not read if you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead. If you have not sen Shaun of the Dead, instead of doing other things, go rent Shaun of the Dead. Or save some money and buy it, as you will surely buy it once you've seen it once.

You didn't like Stealing Harvard? Anyway, Lee is funny as hell, but I just dont know if he could do Irwin M. Fletcher justice. It was Chevy Chases' dry wit and slapstick humor that made that movie a classic and I just dont think Lee is the man for the job. But that's just one man's humble opinion.

Well I know its in and out and then in and out again.. .but I sure as hell want to see it.

as far as the professional 2 , I'd go see that in theater.

as far as sigorney... as old as she is or not... if she got nekkid... I'd want to see her. But I doubt she'd go for that, but even if she did... Im sure slimer would float out in front of her to blurr any shots... that effing dumbass ghost.

There was a cartoon a few years ago called Extreme Ghostbusters that was an official sequel to the award winning cartoon show from the 80s. The premise was that many years had passed and the ghostbusters were no longer needed and had gone their seperate ways with Egon living in the firehouse and teaching at the local university in NYC. Suddenly, like things are apt to do in sequels, all hell breaks loose and the students in Egon's class must become the new generation of ghostbusters and save the world, yada yada. It was a damn good show, hell, at the end of the series they actually brought back the original cast from the first cartoon show, voice actors and all, with the notable exception of Rick Morranis' character; sigourney weaver's character never made an appearance in the cartoon, I don't believe. I could have very well imagined the premise of this new cartoon to be plot to another ghostbuster's movie... Egon would just have to loose weight.

Shit, i didnt know it went down like that, idve watched that cartoon if i did - i loved the classic 80's one. And that's basically the pitch i heard for the movie back in the day, something like Will Smith & others as the young punks class.

I could really see it working, too, just always curious why every retro license under the sun but that one has seen new life.

Yeah, I've seen extreme Ghostbusters. There was no Will Smithish character, it was a Spanish guy, a character who looked a great deal like Ray only he was in a wheelchair, a woman, and I think there was a fourth but I dont recall. It was a lot more serious like the movie, but it was pretty good. I'm just nervous about that as a movie, cause oft times when you replace the origional cast it gets diluted and not as good in movies.

I do have a question, what would Untouchables:Capone Rising be about?

Capone Rising was actually going to be a prequel about - what else - the rise of Al Capone to the state of power he was in at the start of The Untouchables. It was also going to have a younger version of Sean Connery's character. Brian De Palma was in talks to direct and everything, there's even still an IMDb page for it, but as far as I know the project is dead.

Come on, this thread is two weeks away from being a year old; half those movies have either already been made or are being made as I type. We need some revivals of the classics... Evil Dead 4, baby!

Yeah, actually, despite every single one of these movies having been in some sort of development when I made the list last year, I only know of two that have actually gotten made - MI:III and Casino Royale.

The cast for extreme ghostbusters included a lanky latin punk with an ego to rival peter venkman from the original series, a small goth girl that didn't take crap from anybody, a wheelchair bound extreme stunt and sports enthusiast that kinda looked like ray from the old series, and a husky black kid that was the "considerate and sensitive scientist" of the group who's manerisms reminded me of carl from the fresh prince of bell air, but then again, the voice actor WAS the guy who played carl in the fresh prince. There was also slimer, egon and jenine from the original series with their original voice actors too.

The Hobbit IS going to happen.

If Toy Story 3 happens, it will be Disney only, no Pixar, and that could jeopardize the chances of getting back the voice talent, and Disney is notorious for going ahead with straight to video sequels without the original voice talent.

If Pixar was in control, it would be TS3.

Yeah some of the choices are probably going to see the light of day in one form or another, but their exact futures are still unclear. Even The Hobbit has never really moved too much beyond Peter Jackson saying "yes, I'll do it someday".

He thought it was confirmed that he said it was next after King Kong.
Jackson Walks Away From 'The Hobbit'

Negotiations Sour With New Line Cinema

November 22, 2006

Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson wrote a letter to his fan base over the weekend stating that he was walking away from negotiations with New Line Cinema regarding filming of The Hobbit.

According to the letter, Jackson was not interested in discussing terms of the new film until his lawsuit with New Line concerning DVD proceeds from The Fellowship of the Ring was settled. Also according to Jackson, New Line offered to settle the lawsuit if he agreed to commit to The Hobbit film.

News sources report that New Line's interest in moving on the film production, with or without Jackson, is due to a limited time offer on the rights from producer Saul Zaentz. Other sources speculate that New Line was hoping to score a smaller settlement with Jackson, using his passion for The Hobbit material as leverage.

Hollywood news sources suggest that Jackson's popularity with fans, the proprietary Gollum "code" developed by his special effects studio, and the rumor that key actors from the trilogy may refuse The Hobbit gig in allegiance to Jackson, may mean that these negotiations are not necessarily over. Jeff Pryor, speaking on behalf of MGM, which has distribution rights to The Hobbit, stated, "We still believe this matter of Peter Jackson directing The Hobbit is far from closed."

The LOTR movies earned 17 Oscars and have grossed $2.9 billion worldwide.

The future of The Hobbit depends almost entirely on how spiteful New Line wants to be. Jackson leaving the project is more about bad blood and the Fellowship lawsuit than anything else, which means once that lawsuit is settled he'll probably be more than eager to do the film. Every member of the cast who has spoken about it has expressed complete support for Jackson. Even more importantly, so has producer Saul Zaentz whose company will receive filming rights to the book next year.

However, New Line does not want Jackson on the movie because Jackson won't do it until the lawsuit is settled and next year's deadline on the rights would mean that they would have to settle very soon which would cost them millions. New Line's only other option is to start production on the film in the next couple months with a new director, a new production team and most likely new actors. This would allow New Line to keep the film rights and let them drag their feet on the lawsuit for as long as they can. But then, in most opinions, it would also produce a rushed, inferior and out-of-continuity film that would screw fans over and likely cause a backlash. So the ball's in New Line's court right now. Frankly, Jackson saved that company from bankruptcy and they should just pay the guy and move on.

Not much of one. Last I heard, Dan Ackroyd had pretty much given up on any hope of that. And everyday the original team gets older is an even slimmer chance. Look for a remake in the next decade or so instead.

An update on the list:

Indiana Jones 4 is, of course, coming out next month.

Alien 5 has been confirmed dead by Sigourney Weaver. There are chances of more AVP movies, but another Alien film will most likely never happen.

Mad Max: Fury Road has also been confirmed dead by Gibson and director George Miller.

Ghostbusters 3 I mentioned already.

The Hobbit is in development and there's probably a 98% chance it will be directed by Guillermo Del Toro with Pete Jackson and Fran Walsh producing. There will also be a sequel that spans the time between Hobbit and Rings.

Die Hard 4, of course, happened last summer.

The Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day has actually been retitled simply "Boondock 2: All Saints Day" and has finally gotten financing. Troy Duffy insists that filming will begin late summer or early fall of this year, but don't hold your breath.

Toy Story 3 was taken away from Disney's low-budget sequel division when John Lasseter took over Disney animation. The project has been brought back into the Pixar fold and is slated for a 2010 release...in 3D.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 will probably not happen, but a remake is rumored to be in production.

Jurassic Park IV is still on Spielberg's official docket for the future, though no new news has come out about it recently. Last rumor had Laura Dern in talks to reprise her role.

Hannibal Rising, unfortunately, came out last year and soiled a pretty good movie series.

M:I-III came out in '06 and was damn good, actually!

The Professional 2 is still nothing but a "what if" idea that Luc Besson has mentioned on occasion.

The Untouchables: Capone Rising is still in some form of production with DePalma returning to direct. Last word was that Gerard Butler was attached to play the young Jimmy Malone.

Casino Royale came out, of course, and is leading into the first direct sequel in Bond history - Quantum of Solace - this November.

The Chronicles of Riddick 2 has not seen any activity that I know of, though director David Twohy only has one new project on his plate and Vin Diesel has always been keen on reprising the character. Another Riddick videogame is being developed for next gen systems. If it sells well, perhaps the project will gain some momentum.

The Crow: Wicked Prayer actually came out sometime in '05. I don't think anyone noticed.

Evil Dead 4 has been confirmed pretty dead (is anything ever completely dead when it comes to Evil Dead?) by both Raimi and Campbell, but a remake has been in the works.

Fahrenheit 9/11 1/2 is kaput. Not much use for it after the Bush administration leaves office at the end of the year.

Fletch Won is finally in production. Kevin Smith is long gone from the project, and Steve Pink (director of last year's dud Accepted, but also co-writer of both High Fidelity and Grosse Point Blank) is directing, with Joshua Jackson rumored for the title role.
