I'm currently re-reading "Art of War" and "Walden" both (ironic, eh?), i dont think i really appreciated them on the levels i shouldve the first time. After that, books to read:

-"World Citizen", Thomas Paine

-"The Soul of Capitalism", William Greider - New one, Half cancelled my order tho

-"In M.K. Gandhi's Own Words: Nonviolent Action Manual"

-"The Way of the Samurai: Yukio Mishima on Hagakure in Modern Life" - out of print, everywhere

-"The Samurai Sword - A Handbook", John Yumoto

-"Kenjutsu: The Art of Japanese Swordsmanship", Charles Daniel - Not great, but only findable text on kenjutsu

-"The Unfettered Mind: Writings of the Zen Master to the Sword Master", Takuan Soho - Last bushido book ive been recommended

-"Code of the Samurai: A Modern Translation of the Bushido Shoshinsu" , Yuzan Daidoji

-"On the Law of War and Peace", Hugo Grotius - Hard to find

-"The Universe in a nutshell" & "A brief history of time", Stephen Hawking - I doubt ill get to em soon, but im curious.

-"Out of Control", Kevin Kelly

-"Introducing Evolutionay Psychology"

-"Paradise Lost", John Milton - Actually, nah, i read part of it, no more interest

-"Confessions of an Irish Rebel", Brendan Behan

-"For Whom the Bell Tolls", Ernest Hemingway - Never finished it.

-"Killing Hope" & "Rogue State", William Blum

-"Big Lies: The Right-Wing Propaganda Machine and How It Distorts the Truth", Joe Conason - recommended by Chomsky.

dombak: drum used in the middle east played with hands

zorna: trumpet-shaped, outdoor double reed instrument

dastgah: 12 different scales of iran

maqam: general terms for scales in middle east

radif: guide to iranian music

 

muddy waters: wrote mississippi delta blues, 40's

woody guthrie: folk music during 30's-50's, songs for the little man

 

pishdaramad, chaz mezbar, avaz, tasnif, reng=5 parts of a middle eastern suite

 

oud: ancestor to lute

 

rebab: bowed string instrument from indonesia

suling: end blown flute from indonesia

ney: end blown flute from IRAN

sitar: stringed instrument with pumpkin shaped body, bent fretboard and sympathetic strings (ravi shankar!)

tabla: drum played with hands used in northern (hindustani: more improv, nicer, harmony) tradition

vina: sitar like instrument without sympathetic strings (used in south)

sarod: small stringed instrument with tin fretboard (ali akbar khan was a performed with this)

heheh thats for lazy guys like spiffy who never bother comin up with their own title...just callin it like i sees it. :D
