BaKa_nO_kUrO_nEkO
Posted this in the game part but I'm happy to post it again.... Advent Children NewsUpdate by: Cloud Strider. Wednesday, March 23 2005. A recent interview from www.gamesindustry.biz concerning Final Fantasy: Advent Children has revealed some much needed information to put some rumors to rest. First of all, the length of the film, which was first planned to be 20 to 30 minutes, has now extended to 70 minutes. Something they were not planning. In their own words ' we set out to create a collection of clips more than a feature film'. Also, the original staff of FFVII working on Advent Children include: Mr Kitase (Producer), Mr Nomura (Director), Mr Nojima (Script Writer) and also Mr Naora (Art Director). And to my disappointment about the www.7up.com release date for Advent Children, a fixed date has not been set. They are also preparing for the announcement for the release as well as the locations. Question have also been asked about a possible remake of the original game. Square-Enix replied with ' nothing so far. We have to make Advent Children first'. As for the question whether or not Advent Children will be released in theatres. It has been said that there are some ideas about it. Square-Enix is making the film, but they are using other companies to release the film.

Newtype
Damn it! It's just not fair! Square Enix today announced a special promotion campaign for its upcoming CG movie sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Unlike the company's previous movie project, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Advent Children will only be available on DVD and UMD, and not air in cinemas, with the exception of one week next month in Tokyo, Kyoto and Nagoya. These fans will have the chance to see it on the big screen. The movie's Japan Premiere will take place in the Virgin Toho Cinemas located in Tokyo's Roppongi Hills on September 8th at 19:00 JST. From September 10th until 16th limited screenings will take place everyday at 18:30 JST in the aforementioned cinema as well as the Toho Cinema Nagoya Bay City and the Toho Cinema Nijou in Kyoto. The NZA
Yeah, the IMAX treatment wouldve been great, but right now, id go for just a US release date. Again, i dont expect it to be too long before the japanese release'd get fansubbed & bitorrented, tho.
Acalis
I think they should shoot for DVD first, and if the movie sells really well, then maybe they should release it on IMAX for those who DO want to see it on the big screen.

Oh, here's some major info on the movie if you want to spoil it for yourself: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Set two years after the events of Final Fantasy VII, Cloud now leads a solitary life traveling the Planet as a transporter. The office of Strife Delivery Service is located in 7th Heaven, which also functions as an orphanage for children stricken with Geostigma. Three new enemies make an appearance in Advent Children. Kadaj, their leader, is in his teens, while Yazoo and Loz are known to be in their twenties. In them, Cloud sees shadows of FFVII’s fallen hero, Sephiroth. The three are after “Mother” and refer to Cloud as their “Brother”. Having obtained Jenova’s head, their purpose appears to be to start another Reunion. Vincent suspects that with Jenova’s cells, they may even be able to create another Sephiroth. A non-contagious disease known as Geostigma is spreading across the Planet, with Kadaj claiming that it is due to Jenova’s cells working hard in the Lifestream. Children tend to show signs of Geostigma first, though adults are susceptible to the disease as well. Symptoms of Geostigma include mental weakness, pain and even death. Cloud is known to suffer from this disease though he hides his affected arm beneath his sleeve. He is heard coughing and clutching his arm in some parts of the trailers. Victims bandage affected regions and it was Cloud’s used bandage, which Marlene found in the Church, that gave away his condition. According to the creators, the Church will feature prominently in the movie. Besides being the place Cloud calls home, it is also the stage for the fight between Tifa and Loz. Despite her valiant attempts, Tifa is ultimately defeated and Loz makes off with Marlene and the rest of the children. Cloud arrives late and brings the barely conscious Tifa back to 7th Heaven. Reno and Rude arrive at 7th Heaven, Cloud having been hired by Rufus to be his “bodyguard” from the three new foes. The ShinRa President suffers from Geostigma as well and is wheelchair-bound. Rufus has been reconstructing Midgar and searching for any traces of influence that Sephiroth might have left on the Planet, to which he has found none. He now resides at the Healin Lodge, also known as the Geostigma Sanatorium. The Turks report that the three silver-haired youths have brought the children to their headquarters, the City of the Ancients. Cloud still carries emotional scars from the last time we saw him. Weighed down by memories of loved ones he has lost and his physical condition, he now comes across as devoid of hope. Ever the reluctant hero, it takes much persuasion from Tifa after the children are captured for Cloud to decide to go after them. Perhaps it is only during his dream-like encounter with Aerith on the way to the City of the Ancients that he finally makes some progress. The two meet back-to-back in the flower field, beneath a pure white sky. Cloud struggles to voice his desire to seek forgiveness, to which Aerith says that she already has forgiven him. Consoled but still unconvinced, Cloud sets out on his path of redemption. Kadaj speaks to the children by the shore of the lake in the City of the Ancients, rallying them to join forces with him against the Planet. They ambush Cloud and the children form a circle around him, preventing his escape. Kadaj calls Cloud a traitor and is about to execute him when Vincent swoops down and brings Cloud to safety. Marlene escapes and rejoins Cloud and Vincent in the woods. They then chase the silver-haired youths and the children back to Midgar. Midgar is in chaos when they return. Kadaj has unleashed a swarm of Shadowcreepers which attack the townspeople while Cid, Barret, Vincent, Yuffie and Red XIII fight them off. Tifa is shown shielding Denzel, one of the orphans under her charge. Reno and Rude battle Yazoo and Loz respectively. Kadaj is seen looking down from a damaged building with Rufus, during which he summons Bahamut Sin. Cloud then practically flies towards the dragon, kamikaze-style, as it prepares to launch an attack on the city. It should be noted that Tifa, Cid, Yuffie, Red XIII and Marlene have each been seen carrying a ribbon. Cloud, too, has been spotted with one tied around his left arm during what appears to be a flashback. Here, his arm is not covered by a sleeve, presumably before he contracted Geostigma, and he is seen fingering the ribbon in the rain. Whether the ribbons are simply a gesture of friendship or even a sign of mourning remains uncertain. The scene then shifts to Cloud scaling up the side of a building with a sword in each hand while explosions go off. As the buildings collapse around him, he looks up and we see Sephiroth in all his former glory. The line, “I won’t remain just a memory.” is heard. From out of the debris, sword drawn, a familiar face is seen. None other than Sephiroth has returned. Purty sweet, huh? Oh, yeah, and the movie's reported at being 97 minutes long, not 70...so, um...even more reason to celebrate!!!
Newtype
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is all set for simultaneously US and Japanese DVD release on 9/14 ( (9/13 for us). While details on the US version of the movie have yet to be revealed by the company, we've gotten word of the Japanese release plans, and boy we sould be pissed. Advent Children will be released in two packages. A standard edition, containing just the DVD release, will retail for 4,079 yen. The final film will clock in at 97 minutes, in 16x9 format and with Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Pro Logic II sound tracks. In addition to the movie, the DVD will include the Advent Children trailer, trailers for all the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII products, and a digest look at the original FFVII, featuring the CG scenes from the game. More interesting is the pricey limited edition version of the flick. Costing 24,990 yen, the limited edition includes, in addition to the standard DVD, a second DVD containing a making-of video, an original video animation called "Last Order Final Fantasy," a video look at the Advent Children Venice Film Festival premier, and a series of trailer. The package also includes a Cloud figure set, a key holder marked with a serial number, a cap, a t-shirt and a voiced replication of the script. Best of all, the package comes with a special version of the original PlayStation Final Fantasy VII (in its Japanese FFVII: International re-release package) -- that's right, the whole game! It's unknown if Square Enix plans a similar package for fans in America, but join us in hoping that we get treated just as well. It's also still unclear what Square Enix plans on doing with the UMD release of the movie.

Silent Bob
Sooo judging from that "synopsis", those of us who never bothered to finish the game (or even cared that much about it) aren't going to have a clue what's going on, huh?
The NZA
well, no...it was supposed to be a sequel, right? So why would you...? I dunno, i know an awful lotta people who got far (disc 2) in FF VII but never finished it...VIII i understand, but VII? that confuses me. I know its way late now to remember where you were and all, but yeah, im sure its gonna be palatable to those unfamiliar with the entire plot, but as with anything else, details'll be lost - my best guess, anyway.
