Lucas has finally deigned to bring his coveted six-film Star Wars opus to Blu-ray, according to reports of an announcement just made by Lucasfilm representative Steve Sansweet from a panel at the C2E2 comic book convention in Chicago.

While an actual quote has yet top be published, twitter reports began arriving within moments of Sansweet’s announcement:

@loquaciousmuse - “Star Wars Blu Ray of all 6 movies w/ tons of newly found extra material coming soon, no date yet.”

@NebsTV - “Star Wars Blu-ray pack with all 6 movies is in the works, loaded with new extras.”

Rest assured, when more info pours in, we’ll update the story. In the meantime, I have to say, while new information hasn’t really been revealed here (Still no date, still no details), it’s always nice to hear the confirmation that the studio is actively working on getting these films released on Blu-ray. I’m curious to know what this “newly found extra material” is, though. I’m personally hoping for nothing beyond the inclusion of the original cuts of the first trilogy. You might be tired of hearing it but Greedo should never shoot first!

Only way I'll buy it.

yeah...good luck with that.

i liked the effects added with extra TIE fighters and making java look more real...i wasnt as bothered by anakin being tossed into the ending, but the point of contention of han shooting first...you might want to wait on a fan edition of that.

The 2006 original trilogy DVD had the original versions as a bonus feature on the second disc of each film, but it would be nice to have a version with the improved sound, image quality, redone explosions and tie fighters, etc, but without Greedo shooting first. I think the point Alex is making is that, if the Blu-Ray doesn't have Han shooting first, the Blu-Ray is not worth the investment.

Agreed and seconded.

Also the extra features better be completely new and have some kick ass docs on the BR version if they want me to shell out more money for the entire six films in one box set. They'll likely release the individual films a year or two later if they follow the DVD model. But in five-seven years time fans will do this dance again likely w/ the 3D version.

i like it when you take time to flesh out things that no one needed to be made more clear; its like an old teacher who assumes his students are mindless and likes his voice anyway.

boo'ing the sentiment that han shouldn't shoot first is about the most non-controversial thing on hondo's this side of arguing "i think everyone's entitled to accessing porn" or, i don't know...see, i was gonna try to grab some amercian beauty/fight club/big lebowski type shit for an example here, but you fuckers are so deviant, one of your favorites around here thinks rage against the machine breaking up was a good career move. i cant even grab anything overly specific here anymore, because someone's bound to be crazy prove me wrong.

*Runs into thread*

I thought I heard the sound of NZA challenging the presence of someone with a wildly varied opinion to his own. :whew: What'd I miss?

must not point out the irony of JZA and hostility to outside opinions for fear of creating a time paradox

thing is, if you read the words, im actually saying what jax is pointing at is an opinion that none of you disagree with, and noting the irony that...wait, get back in your hole.

This is just challenging me to disagree with you, but I can't take up the gauntlet because as I didn't grow up with Star Wars/nerds I've never had any fucking idea about this who shot first thing outside of Pop culture referencing until today. Other than that, Jax liking the font of his own type is nothing new. Gven I don't hang in Politics I miss Jax a lot.

Of course I've seen it, several times since infact. It's just that growing up too poor to even be a nerd I haven't been party to these long-standing debates about who shot first, and who looked better in tights and whatnot and so now approach these discussions in the prudent fashion one attends anything knowing I'm out of my depth.

stop it you guys for real he's gonna show and it wont be my fault

if i had a time machine, id introduce AU to bootlegs in the 80's and right this wrong.

So what was wrong with the last batch of DVDs? They had both versions of the film on them but I seem to remember something was terrible about them but I can't recall what.

Problem was that the first set didn't have the original cuts of the first trilogy. The first blu-ray set may not even have them.

What the fuck is w/ all this "too cool for school" talk from Jay? He grew up w/ the biggest nerd this side of Crocodile Dundee's stand-in--himself!

Oh, and . . .

Dante.

Jeesh Nick, the point I was making was not whether Greedo should have shot first...that's a settled issue. The question is, if the only way version available on BluRay has Greedo shooting first, is the BluRuy still worth getting for the improved picture/sound quality and new special features it might have? A room full of Han-shot-first purists could easily be divided on whether the issue is worth refusing to buy the BluRay over.

i was just sayin' you were overstating the obvious there, and quietly challenging you to find a less controversial claim to fit around here, since we've grown & all. im not sure it it'd be harder than outdoing "fucking magnets", but its an exercise nonetheless.

somewhat related, newt was on about the new LOTR blu-rays and their incompleteness. i guess its up to you as a consumer if its worth it, but unless there's a pressing need, id figure a full/definitive version is kinda inevitable? then again, we've been saying that about Kill Bill for years now.

I never said I was cool, I said I was poor. I never went to the movies or had the toys because I couldn't afford 'em. Same goes for friends. No wait, I didn't have friends because I've always been a cunt.

I heard comments elsewhere on the nets that the quality of the DVD ona good DVD player like a PS3 is so good that you don't need blueray.

(I have no clue personally, having never touched a PS3 or a Star Wars DVD in my life.)

Bad news guys. Not only will the bluray PROBABLY not have Han shooting first, I've uncovered a scene from the Bluray edition with even MORE retcon shenanigans!!
