Silent Bob Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Heh, no. I mean: by Charlie Higson. Just came out at the end of April. The book reviews aren't great, but it is meant for readers 10-15 or so, so what can you expect. The second book in the series is on its way. Quote
MusicManiac Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) Who should play the next James Bond? The Hollywood Reporter has the latest inside skinny on the search for the next James Bond. With Casino Royale now being rewritten by Paul Haggis and a January start date looming, the filmmakers have yet to find a replacement for Pierce Brosnan, whom the article says was dropped over his "usurious" salary demands. The trade spoke with insiders who desired anonymity. The gist is that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, as well as MGM's new owner Sony and Royale director Martin Campbell, can't agree on who should take over the role of 007. According to THR's sources, Clive Owen turned Campbell down flat, opting to parody Bond in The Pink Panther remake instead. Broccoli championed oft-reported contender Daniel Craig but Wilson was cool to him. Eric Bana was deemed not handsome enough, Hugh Jackman too fey, Colin Farrell too sleazy and Ewan McGregor too short. As for the reported "final four" contenders – Goran Visnjic, Alex O'Lachlan, Henry Cavill and Ewan Stewart – apparently their screen tests must not have wowed the powers-that-be as the hunt continues. (Stewart's reps insist that, despite numerous reports to the contrary, he never actually tested.) Fantastic Four's Julian McMahon, at one point all but anointed as the next Bond, reportedly alienated himself by doing an overly self-promotional, Bond-esque photo shoot for Angeleno Modern Luxury magazine, complete with the headline "Licence to Thrill." McMahon never ended up doing a screen test. "They said they wanted the next generation's James Bond," one candidate's rep advised THR. "Someone the younger audience could relate to." In other words, the filmmakers seem to want a variation of Matt Damon's Jason Bourne. The trick is to bring in younger viewers without alienating die-hard Bond fans or violating the spirit of the character. THR did drop some interesting names as to who might be in the running now for the role, among them: Karl Urban (LOTR, The Bourne Supremacy); David Morrissey (who Sharon Stone OK'd as her male lead in Basic Instinct 2); Rufus Sewell (soon to be seen in Campbell's The Legend of Zorro); Rupert Friend and Matthew MacFadyen (who co-starred together opposite Die Another Day's Rosamund Pike in Pride and Prejudice); Jason O'Mara (the TV series The Agency); Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean and who co-starred opposite John "Q" Cleese in Fierce Creatures); and James Purefoy (HBO's Rome and more recently noteworthy for being replaced in V for Vendetta). Officially, the search for the new 007 continues. "There is no pending announcement," Bond spokeswoman Ann Bennett informed the paper. Edited September 1, 2005 by MusicManiac Quote
soldier of fortune Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I'd like to see brosnan do 1 more! Keeps popping up he's agreed to do it, but then i hear he hasn't! Quote
Silent Bob Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 (edited) Glad to hear Purefoy's name is making it onto that list, because I've always wanted him to at least be considered. After seeing Layer Cake, I'd also happily support Daniel Craig in the role. I'm not sure how accurate that article is in its facts, though (for instance, as far as I know Clive Owen has never been involved in The Pink Panther remake...maybe they got him confused with Jason Statham?) And some of the picks on that list seem a little far-fetched (David Morrissey and Rufus Sewell?) Dammit, Eon needs to get off its ass. I miss my Bond flicks. By the way, when they mentioned Julian McMahon's overly-zealous campaigning for the role, I'm surprised they didn't mentioned the just released Season 2 dvd of Nip/Tuck. The guy is definitely trying a little too hard. Edited September 5, 2005 by Silent Bob Quote
crimsonfire Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Any other actor than Sean Connery is always going to be a mediocre bond. Brosnan came ever so close though. Quote
archangel Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I actually heard someone mention Hugh Grant. If nothing else, it would be amusing If anyone could Photoshop that, i'd love to see it...just to laugh, and laugh, and laugh... Quote
MusicManiac Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 If anyone could Photoshop that, i'd love to see it...just to laugh, and laugh, and laugh... Done hastily but it gets the job done. Quote
bishopcruz Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Wow, it captures bond so well! hehe, Wow, Grant looks drunk. Then again I think he always is. Quote
MusicManiac Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 LOL... I think Hugh likes to drink (alot) ... hey he's English! Quote
archangel Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 ::clap, clap, clap, clap, clap:: that is the funniest damn thing i've seen in a long, long time. Thanks man lol I needed that. Quote
soldier of fortune Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Its been reported this side of the water, that Sony want brosnan for at least this one! Hope he does at least one more then he can tell em to piss off!! Quote
Donatella Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) A reporter asked Daniel Craig and the cast of Spectre if they thought there could ever be a female Bond. Daniel's response: "Sure, yeah, definitely. I think it’s a great idea. If it works it works," he says. "That’s the great thing about film is it’s all about imagination so of course it could happen. Not that’s it a huge push, it’s just that anything’s possible." The others were less encouraging. Christoph Waltz said this: "[i think it's] complete and utter nonsense. I think there should be great parts for women, I do think that. I just think that James Bond is not one of them... I think that if a woman would play James Bond, it wouldn’t be James Bond. Can you do it? Of course you can, you can do anything, but does it make sense? Not one bit." What do you guys think? Personally, I'd love to see Idris in the role, at least for the next few films! Little Nemo McFly Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Of course, it wouldn't be James Bond. It'd be a different character. James Bond would be weird if he had a set of juggs and wore a dress. 007 would have to be Jessica Bond - super spy! Real question is - can a female convincingly do all the things 'James Bond' does? Seduce, get into countless fights and perform insane / impossible stunts. Isn't that essentially what Black Widow does? Coincidentally, I've been working on a story about a female gunslinger in the Old West. Character, character, character. It's a different world for a woman than it is for a man. Quote
The NZA Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 look at Tomorrow Never Dies, michelle yeoh does her own stunts/fights brosnan didn't 1 Quote
the division of joy Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) Would love to see James Bond do this to someone. Edited November 9, 2015 by the division of joy Quote
The NZA Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 you get a little of that in the Bourne films, which for years there i found more enjoyable than the poorly-written later brosnan ones when Craig's run started up, i also thought the bourne influence was pretty strong on the current direction of the series Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Is Craig already done with the franchise or are we just speculating for shits n giggles? I'm not sure if I see him as Bond, but I think Idris would be great as a spy in an action-y type roll, kinda like what Liam Neeson is doing these days. And I kind of agree with Herr Waltz, the whole Bond archetype or template wouldn't really work with a female. It'd be interesting if handled well, but it wouldn't be Bond. I think Carl Urban would be a good choice for a more "traditional" type Bond, i.e. dapper, white, male Brit. Quote
Iambaytor Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Gabourey Sidibe is the only Bond I want, and the only one I'll accept. Quote
The NZA Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Daniel Craig reportedly tells Bond bosses he's 'done' with role The actor has reportedly turned his back on a two-film deal worth £68 million Despite seeming incredibly unlikely that Daniel Craig will return as James Bond in any future films, an official word is yet to be spoken on the matter. An emerging report has suggested, however, that Craig's decision to step down is all but confirmed with an LA source telling the Mail: "Daniel is done - pure and simple - he told top brass at MGM after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn’t what he wanted." welp Quote
Jumbie Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) Time for a young Oxford educated muslim to step into the role. I'm cool with Elba except I think his age works against him as a franchise player. But London's got a muslim mayor now. Time for a muslim Bond. And he should fight muslim terrorists. Not vaguely dark terrorists, but MUSLIM terrorists. I think showing a modern muslim man with a strong love for Britain and a way with the ladies and liquor is perfect for breaking the cycle of recruitment into Islamist culture. The Islamist culture is essentially an anti-modern culture so showing the western world as fun and roguish is the best weapon to counteract it. That's how American Cowboys and Rockstars made America the aspiration of so many oppressed people before. Edited May 20, 2016 by Jumbie Quote
Da Cap'n 2099 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) Daniel Craig reportedly tells Bond bosses he's 'done' with role welp He was done after Casino Royale (his first). At least we got 2 great films out of him. I'm ready for a darker version anyway ;) Edited May 20, 2016 by Da Cap'n 2099 Quote
The NZA Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 i guess i see the knock on Idris' age, even if we did get more time from post-prime Brosnan than i think some expected can't deny that a good muslim/etc choice would be pretty inspired, too - i don't know any names offhand, but that seems to be where HBO/netflix/etc excels, get in touch with their casting people! Iambaytor Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 But one of Bond's most common cathphrases involves him ordering a martini, wouldn't that not jibe with the whole Muslim thing? Quote
