the division of joy Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 is it wrong that ive had this film on my pc for the best part of a month?

So as far as I know if she permanently wanted any powers she'd have to kill another mutant. I think, I'm not so familiar with the comics.
Reverend Jax Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « What I found odd is when Magneto fucking tossed Mystique to the curb. I mean, Mystique was his single most loyal follower, she enven threw herself in front of the bullet (that she didn't know was a cure bullet, adn she's not bullet proof) without any hesitation to save Magneto's life. It's one thing to say "you can't be a part of our movement anymore", it's another thing entirely to leave someone naked in the middle of nowhere less than 60 second from the moment they sacrificed themselves to save you and essentially say "I don't even owe you so much as taking you to a place where you can get pair of pants." That was cold, and, I thought, out fo character for Magneto. He's supposed to be militant, resolved in his cause, but he's also civilized and a gentleman. His distain for her was a little hard to wrap my head around.
Ganny McVagflaps Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Afterwards I was thinking what Jax said about it being the Jedi of the series. Then I got obsessed with Bill Duke and forgot. I did enjoy it alot, but I thought it lacked the emotional impact of the first two. "Wait, wait...Cyclops died. Oh, okay". I can't imagine seeing a better action movie this summer. Anyone else think Olivia Williams was smoking in it? Now I know what Max Fischer saw in her.
APANCHALYPSE NOW Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Man, I really liked this one! Props to Ratner for shuttin' (most of) the people up about this flick! Think about the fuckin' pressure this guy was up against after the first 2 Singer masterpeices? He had big shoes to fill and I think he did a great job! Stop trying to compare it to the others and try to look at it as it's own movie! You have to admit that it was pretty good!
bishopcruz Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I think my biggest problem with the movie was the fact that they tossed way to many characters to the curb. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Cyclops dies for NO reason. Mystique is tossed in the trash. Rogue is useless, Xavier is toast. Sabretooth was missing since movie 1. Nightcrawler is nowhere to be seen. Jean is useless other than as a character eraser. Storm was ok, but pretty useless too. I think Jax is kinda right with the Jedi comparison in that it was better than it SHOULD have been but it has way too many flaws to be as good as the first two. People assume that those who complain about Jedi do so because of the Ewoks. The Ewoks were part of the problem, but nowhere near the whole issue. People complain about Jedi becuase even though it is a good film, it's not the film the first two films lead into. It suffers the same problems Jedi did in that it forgets where it came from. It tried way too hard to wrap the series up in one movie when it wwas building itself up to many more. After X2 the series should have dealt with say, the Sentinels, and THEN brought Jean back. Then again, unless you really plan well for sequels it is very hard to keep them going after the second one. The realities of production tend to get in the way. It's very hard to do an effective trilogy unless you film back to back. The story takes back seat to contractual obligations or other things.
BestkeptSecret Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I think it was everything a comic book movie should be...it was direct in its plot (Humans find "cure", mutants protest, Xavier tries to pacify, Magneto retaliates, Xmen fight the war, World is saved) There was plenty of action, some sort of emotional subplot (Wolverine CRIES AWWWWW ) and like in every good comic script...witty remarks that make us laugh. I liked it for what it was...another Xmen movie. Lumping the three movies together as a "Trilogy" aplifies the fact that its not at the caliber of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings...perhaps disappointing some viewrs. I think it's better to like the movie, how Apanchalypse said "for its own movie".
Arnah Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 I have a question - If Juggernaut's an unstoppable force - and not a mutant, how the fuck was Leech able to suck his powers in the cell?
archangel Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 for the purposes of this film, Juggernaut is a mutant.
Arnah Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Mmm. Its not like they stayed incredibly loyal to the story anyway.... Surprisingly, thats the only thing that REALLY bugs me.
archangel Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 I understand why they did it. His story is too complicated to fit into the movie, but he's a kick ass villain. I say creative license and a good call on their behalf.
Jables Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Man, I really liked this one! Props to Ratner for shuttin' (most of) the people up about this flick! Stop trying to compare it to the others and try to look at it as it's own movie! You have to admit that it was pretty good! Let's see how you feel when Ratner takes over from Raimi for Spiderman 3 and instead of doing any real villians, bleaches Kelsey Grammar's Beast-suit & gives Mary Jane contacts. Not to mention makes Wolverine cry. Why do I get the feeling Nick's in a foetal position on his loungeroom floor? Lindsay? Did you happen to notice the beanbag was smelling more of brut & Dorrities than normal & is rocking back and forth a lot? You shold really get Nick into a shower or something...
The NZA Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 quiet, you finally caught up on this spoiler-ridden thread (no idea how you people enjoy a movie youve seen 17 clips from and go in knowing who makes it & who doesnt)... baytor: Phoenix Saga was good, was more important during its time when big character deaths werent so daily a thing. Also, it had the fist solo Wolverine story, him comin back up from the sewers to save his team, alone, which i alwyas loved. And yeah, Jean's dead for the time being, and the foreseeable future. Its practically an in-joke in the book itself about how often she dies. The Good: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Beast was awesome. Not a showstopper like Nightcrawler in 2, but Fraiser was just as good for this as i thought he'd be. Not sure why Skeeter didnt like his "powers", he's just agile and can fight. that last battle, where he's like breakdancing off a pole? i remember thinking "cool, its just like x-men legends". Around the script (which wasnt strong, but wasnt as bad as id been sold on) there were little character moments here & there, wish there were more. Im still shocked Ratner went & bumped off Xavier, jesus christ. Kitty, Colossus, Juggernaut (bitch), lotta fun things here. I only now just realized that chick was Callisto, and those fucks were Morlocks. The action was crazy here. oh, and Multiple Man was cool shit too. Danger Room was kinda fun too, but i too wish theydve either done Sentinels or not. El Jax - its not that out of character for Mags, cause she's human now, and he doestn feel he owes a human anything. its cold, yeah, but he's an extremist. The Bad: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « dialogue here & there, and no cohesion on the team - remember in part 2 when Nightcrawler 'ports out of the near-crashing blackbird to save Rogue? that shit was like right out of X-Men in the 90's with Jim Lee, it was fun team shit. Even when Beast was all "oh my stars & gaters" on the same jet, i just didnt feel like i was looking at a team. i know it aint easy introducing Pryde, Collossus, Beast & othets all together but for such a small, important team, they felt like strangers at times. Also, the cure-darts were kinda silly after a while. The Ugly: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I looked past Juggy's outfit, but Angel's wings were cheap, and im sure we coudla got a better US president. Kinda sucked half-leaving X villified right before he did, but the current x-books are on a "fuck xavier" spin anyway, so uh, if even by accident, props to Ratner for staying in line with that, and the Whedon cure storyline, and even House of M kind of, by the end...? Scott really went out like a chump, and nothing's more obvious there than "hey, time to bury jean...oh shit, did Scott die a while back? let's bury whatever we can find of him too, i guess." When did cry twice? i just remember after he killed Jean, and cmon that's harsh. So yeah, not on par with 2 but better than I expected. I agree that Ratner really didnt leave the franchise much in way of future sequels, and while managing such a large cast is never easy, im tired of every 3rd movie being a trilogy, i thought trilogies were stories in 3 parts, not sequels.

"oh, good, so when 4 comes out, we can use new people since theyre all dead or gone (but ) with bishop, cable, uh, Cannonball, jean can come back cause she always does, and the school can be run by a new, cheaper storm and a limbless xavier, awesome." 2T - i didnt see her long, but i reckon she'd get stuffed - can you post a pic of her just so i know im not signing on to a she-beast or something? i was kinda tired.
Ganny McVagflaps Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « She was in "Rushmore" and an episode of "Spaced". I wouldn't call her smoking hot usually but she looked good in X3. Also I was high.
Ganny McVagflaps Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Oh and remember how bad: "Do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning....The same thing that happens to everything else." was in the first one. Iambaytor Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Okay haven't seen this movie, but I read a spoiler because that's what I do when I can't afford to go see a movie (don't judge me or I'll gouge out your eyes with an icepick) so I've got the general concensus. First of all, BestKeptSecret next Hondonian Awards, if you're nominated for smartest Hondonian (as you will be if Panch wants to wake up the next morning with 2 kidneys) then I will vote for you because that is the best fucking review I've heard of this movie yet. It's a movie based on a fucking comic book! Why does it need so much substance? Personally I thought the first one was a fucking boring, it was too serious. When I see a movie based on a comic book, I want fights, I want action, and I want so many fucking one-liners it's ridiculous! That's why I hold Spider-Man in higher regard than these films, just when it starts to get too dramatic we get a fight scene or something to make you laugh. That's why I thought X2 was better by leaps and bounds, because there were more fights and more just entertaining sequences not fucking debates about whether mutants should be allowed to walk free and all that shit » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « or watch a senator turn into liquid for a reason I still havent quite figured out And the line » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Don't you know who I am? I'm the Juggernaut, bitch! was something I could imagine that character (yes the comic one too) saying. Not to mention it's the next, "We got snakes, on the motherfucking plane!" Oh yeah, and to answer whoevers question, Nightcrawler isn't in this movie because he decided to be a whiny little bitch because he didn't want to go through the makeup again. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « He could have at least got his Scottish ass in makeup one more fucking time, at least long enough to have his character take a cure dart in the neck and give us some goddamn closure.
The NZA Posted May 30, 2006 Author Posted May 30, 2006 you cant review if you aint seen it yet! *covers eyes* That's why I thought X2 was better by leaps and bounds, because there were more fights and more just entertaining sequences not fucking debates about whether mutants should be allowed to walk free and all that shit I agree x2 was amazingly better, i thought the xavier vs magneto debates in 1 were important for settin up the whole series, and shit like that and magneto's origin at the beginning were some of the best scenes there, cause yeah, by the time mags is tryin to reverse polarity or soemthin and senators are made of goo, shit went weird. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Nightcrawler coulda just been explained by saying he was on a solo mission or somethin, god knows everyone on that team does that and pulls a wolvy, but he oddly wasnt addressed. anyway, doesnt try to be too smart for its own good like The Hulk did, but it does jump the shark here & there.
Iambaytor Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Oh I agree about the review, and I'll post a real one once I actually see the movie. But since I know all the intricate details of the movie thanks to themoviespoiler.com and from what I've seen from all the clips I've watched I think that all the bitching is being a bit critical.
The NZA Posted May 30, 2006 Author Posted May 30, 2006 it is, people are bein harsher on this one than i thought tehy would, but again, clearly different direction and people dont dig change - even im still curious what singer'dve done, x2 was so good. never know why you guys watch half the movie before you watch the movie, though...
