crimsonfire
One of my favourite films no matter how many times I see it. Before that it was... Surprisingly good sci-fi actioner. The whole Groundhog Day shtick is done quite well.
Mr. Hakujin
^^ Was it really "surprisingly" well done? Eduardo and I both told you how good it was. :p And I really am surprised to see American Gangster is one of your favorite films in the genre let alone just in general. I watched it redently for the first time and found it difficult to get through the whole way. Although, it was the "extended edition" I saw, so maybe the theater version was better paced. As for me, I saw Interstellar last night and it was pretty much everything I expected it to be. The action was more minimal than I anticipated but it was a great sci-fi film. I'll write more about it in its own thread later as it does give you much to discuss.
Keth
I just had a big ass smile the whole way through this movie. I would say the child inside me was giddy as hell, but I AM the child. Seriously a great movie and it's at least tied with Guardians of the Galaxy for best comic book flick of the year.
Mr. Hakujin
I am looking forward to taking my nephew to see this. Expectations are high for this one and I'm glad to hear such praise for it.
the division of joy
Went to see Gone Girl. Was excellent until the ending which I felt was a complete cop out.
crimsonfire
Yeah, I liked Gone Girl a lot. Had that trademark Fincher darkness that I enjoy but it did sort of fizzle out towards the end.
the division of joy
Delightful OST, which is just par for the course these days with Reznor & Ross.
Keth
John Wick was really fucking cool. Best action movie I've seen in awhile.
Mr. Hakujin
John Wick was really fucking cool. Best action movie I've seen in awhile. Really? The trailer got me so excited to see that film that I saw it in the theater. I found it very disappointing.
Keth
Man I loved it. One of Keanu's best for my money, some great gun choreography and what looks like a cool start to a new franchise. I had the opposite reaction though and watched it with pretty low expectations. It just had a cool, B-movieish action feel from the 90s. Mr. Hakujin
I'm glad you dug it, axels. And what you described is what the trailer led me to believe I'd see, but I just don't feel it delivered. I liked the premise of... Sweringen running a "hitman hotel" and there being an assassins code. But I felt opportunities were missed. And the big boss fight at the end was just tedious. :/

Mr. Hakujin
^I liked the trailer but it got some bad reviews, so I was on the fence about seeing it in the theater.
Keth
I think its like 70% on RT right now. I know thats not the gold standard but literally everyone ive talked to thats seen it has enjoyed it.
Mr. Hakujin
Okay, the RT score is reassuring. I'll definitely see it, but I could drum up zero interest amongst mah ppl around here for seeing it in the theater. :/ Might have to try a solo matinee tomorrow for either this or Jupiter Ascending. Mr. Hakujin
DONT DO JUPITER!!! Good god its gorgeous but its terrible. Its worth a rental maybe... That is disappointing to hear. Really, terrible? Like John Wick terrible? Birdman. It was incredible. Yup. Now you can appreciate this:
the division of joy
This would be more my level of birdman parody.
Keth
It Follows. I give it two "mehs" up. Music was fantastic, and parts of the movie are pretty creepy, but much like the Babadook it just doesn't fully deliver.
Iambaytor
Yeah, I was painfully underwhelmed by the plot of The Babadook or Tortured Metaphor: The Movie "Hello mom, how's your desire to murder me out of resentment for my father's death on the day of my birth?" "Oh, it's fine, I fed it a bowl of worms. Let's celebrate your birthday and the fact that I didn't stab you last night!"
Da Cap'n 2099
Foxcatcher. Pretty damn fantastic. Maybe my wrestling bias had something to do with it, but I thought it was great. Even if you don't get wrestling, the performances alone are insane.
Master Star
The Invisible War, documentary about rape in the US military. Seriously fucked up shit going on....to both men and women. Wtf?
Mr. Hakujin
^ That is a few years old, right? I remember reading about it a while back. I just saw Kingsman and it was pretty damned good. The fight scenes were shot in a novel way. I hope they do a sequel that follows other Kingsman besides Lancelot & Galahad.
Da Cap'n 2099
Tusk. Worst fucking movie I've ever seen in my life. Jesus Christ.
