Word on the street for a while was that they were running pretty outdated software without adequate protection, and that they had already been warned of as much. Because if I leave my suitcase full of drugs computer at someone's house and someone breaks in and steals it, I don't blame the homeowner, unless I find out the patio door was left open. The NZA Posted May 15, 2011 Share Posted May 15, 2011 man, i hit a sore spot with loganses flyover state thing. also, why isnt axel's HDD removable? to be honest, im not as pissy about it going down, like i wasnt with XBL down a week or two back then, cause i really dont play online as much...i mostly chat and sync trophies and the like, though i did miss out on shit i wanted to get like Beyond Good & Evil HD and Streets of Rage 2. this isn't so much an excuse for Sony as just stating my habits. i do blame them for having shit security, for not reporting on the possible loss of credit card info as soon as they knew it (a point i contend with maldrons), and being down so goddamn long that we celebrate their return like it's force feedback again. if they get raked over the coals at E3 about this, it'll be a shame cause i wanna hear about the NGP, but they'll kinda have it coming and they know it. if we're gonna do the fanboy thing though, there's upsides to these tragedies. -I can all but guarantee, in my mind, sony won't drop the ball this hard again, cause they know they can't if they wanna maintain customer confidence, free service or not. they can no doubt get hacked again - anyone can - and take their servers offline for a day or two to fix shit, but a prolonged period offline where devs/publishers lose mad $ and critical info is lost, no, i can't see that shit happening again. -likewise, MS' next system will be built like a goddamn tank, like every system should. this isnt even a theory of mine; they lost billions on this shit. people will be using them as emergency flotation devices when planes crash in the ocean, and playing them simultaneously. -i hope to god that a) Capcom realizes how fucking stupid their DMR is - i hope none of you tried playing Final Fight or Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 the last few weeks, cause you couldnt, and b) the tragedy of Online Passes gets scrutinized for being the bullshit that it is, cause PSN is back up here and people still cant play MK online without the PS store. -to indulge some fanboy shit, while its perfectly fine for you guys to pay what you want for whatever you desire, XBL gold is bullshit. you own the system, you own the game, you own the internet tubes you're paying for, and you're giving MS extra $ to use all these things you own and host your own games. we're not even talking the dedicated servers many PC games bring for free, you're hosting them - if you don't know the difference, play an MMO or a PC game online that doesn't lag, you'll see it. so now you can pretty much rest assured that next gen, we'll all be paying for this bullshit since MS made it hand over fist by adding bullshit like Last FM (that cant be streamed in game?!) and the like. didnt know about netflix on PS3 needing a disc in it, that's stupid, but i think Nintendo is the only one that wont charge for online because they likely don't know it exists yet (here's to hoping for a miracle with E3...). some argue silver accounts might see online play later, but i cant see that happening, though id love to be wrong here. now if you'll excuse me, im off to try changing my password for the 5th time. Eventually I'd end up just paying the monthly fee out of principle forever because I don't want to lose a big chunk of my game library, and then I'd get orritated, again out of principle. All of this is irrelevant since I turn on my PS3 about 4 times a year. I can see it being potentially worth the relatively small charge otherwise. Plus it's subsidizing free online play for everyone else and (hopefully) making downloads less slow and shitty. Have demos become standard for PSN games yet? XBL can do that because MS is hosting the demos/data, as i understand it (offset by big XBL gold subscriptions from big suckers); since Sony doesnt charge, if i understand it right, it's up to the dev/publisher to host the content, making it not a standard thing. i agree it's a big setback, but looking at the picture overall, i much prefer free online, even if i think there's almost no chance of us seeing it on consoles much next gen.
