so yeah, industry mudslinging: Bobby Kotick (Activision head, industry pariah) has been going on lately about how no one can keep up with what they're doing - Sony, MS, EA, they're all getting left behind. Electronic Arts' reply:

 

Jeff Brown, EA's vice president of communications, didn't hold back when asked for comment, slinging mud at Activision's Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, and World of Warcraft franchises in the process.

 

"Kotick's relationship with studio talent is well documented in litigation," Brown said, referring to Activision's latest lawsuit with developer Infinity Ward over the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise and previously with Double Fine over Brutal Legend.

 

"His company is based on three game franchises – one is a fantastic persistent world he had nothing to do with; one is in steep decline; and the third is in the process of being destroyed by Kotick's own hubris."

 

 

i love it; for those in the cheap seats, that's World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero, and Call of Duty, respectively. so weird to go from thinking EA was cool growing up, to hating them, to kinda loving them again.

Speaking exclusively to Eurogamer, Schafer responded to Kotick, calling his comments "sad".

 

"It's sad is that instead of just insulting me personally, he goes after the product of my hard-working team - a group of people he almost put out of work a while back," Schafer said.

 

"But what's even sadder is that it took him two months to think of a comeback."

EA, who has long sought to get the case thrown out, and said Langdell was deliberately deceiving the USPTO, has successfully done so with today's ruling. The court has denied Edge Games' motion for injunction, citing that it believes that Langdell made fraudulent statements to the US Patent and Trademark Office and strongly believes that Langdell is "suspect," and has been "trolling" the game industry for licensing opportunities. His actions could possibly warrant "criminal penalties."

 

here's to Mirror's Edge 2, Soul Edge 2, and Langdell finally getting his due. fucking patent trolls.

Got an android phone and wanted some games. Unfortunately there's no android-affiliated carrier out here in the wild wild jungle, so when I went to the gameloft site for a copy of H.A.W.X. I was asked to pick my country out of a drop down menu and my country wasn't ON the menu.

SO I emailed them and said basically, I want to pay for your game but there's no option on the website for people who aren't in some kind of plan.

 

I got back this reply:

Look out, Indy -- a new cliffhanging treasure hunter is headed to the big screen, and he's got plenty of chops. At least, he does if his video game experience is any indication.

Nathan Fillion/Nathan Drake

 

The adventurer is Nathan Drake, star of the two smash hit Uncharted games for the PS3 -- and soon to be coming to a theater near you, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Sweetening the pot for fans of the game is news that acclaimed filmmaker David O. Russell ("Three Kings," "Flirting With Disaster") will both write and direct the adaptation for Columbia Pictures.

 

But who will play the lead role? That's yet to be decided, but if fans had their way, it would likely go to another Nathan: Nathan Fillion, who also happens to be a dead ringer for the video game character. And the 'Castle' star thinks it's a pretty great idea, too.

 

"If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it," Fillion tweeted to his half-million followers, linking to a news story about the Uncharted movie news.

 

He sure seems like the perfect match on paper. While there's been no word how closely the film -- currently dubbed "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" -- will follow the events of the first game, it's bound to be jam-packed with loads of precarious leaps, frantic shootouts, and a healthy helping of smart-alecky one-liners. In other words, exactly the stuff that made Fillion a man among geeks during his brief stint as a Han Solo-like spaceship captain in the short-lived sci-fi series 'Firefly.'

 

Not everyone is hoping Fillion lands the role, however. Nolan North, better known as the voice of Nathan Drake (among countless others), sees dashing tough guy Hugh Jackman as the best fit for the part.

the various studios marvel's farmed out to this gen have been hit & miss for me (shattered dimensions has been good so far; can't say the same for iron man 1 & 2's demos, sadly...), but my quiet love for X2: Wolverine's Revenge on GC shows how forgiving i can be for comic franchises, won't take much for me to dig this one.

I was wiki'ing the game Ico cause I never got the chance to play it and I was curious about it. well I ran across this little quote on wiki:

Along with Shadow of the Colossus, Ico will be released in the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus: The Collection for the PlayStation 3 in Spring 2011 which will feature HD graphics, Trophy and 3D support.
