  1. Aaargh! Evan Peters is such a great choice too! Back to being excited!
  2. Meanwhile this guy and this guy have aged decently...
  3. Nah. Snyder showed that sticking to more authentic interpretation of the source material can be bankable, and Marvel went for a guy with fan credibility who's something of an underdog, so they probably didn't have to fork out as much either. What I'm saying is that a typical Edgar Wright movie is being pitched to a different crowd to an Avengers movie. Yes there's nerd and pop culture overlap but the thing is; Avengers marketing is all about netting the general viewing audience in addition to the nerds it can more or less take for granted as being there, whereas your 'nerd genre comedies' ala Spaced, the Cornetto trilogy and the like, are making trailers to get you, the niche audience excited and doesn't really play to the larger crowd.
  4. EXACTLY! I'm just sitting here doing my best to embrace the change but this kinda stuff is weird cross-genre like when solo Avengers or other popular characters get a Max or Knights mini with a little more edge. You don't typically pick up the popular avengers or Iron Man title for a cerebral read. But this really paved the way for a movie like Ant Man to do well, because I was already anticipating these kind of noirish shenanigans and they'd have had a weird time trying to market it as well IMO. I mean Wright is huge, but Wright Dollars aren't the same as Avengers Dollars. This is what I was positing to be Phase 2: Bringing higher concepts/ different genres into play.
  5. Look at the wrist. I'm nearly positive that's Coulson's head on a mego. If this turned out to be an ancestral sequel to Twisted Toyfare Theatre/more marvel-centric Robot Chicken I would lose my shit.
  6. Thrizzles knows how to sell shit. I really am quite fond of J-zilla though and may insist to be called that in the sack from now on. This was a real eye-opener. I work with a former army guy who suggested this to me as the most honest account he'd seen of the war and the effect it takes on those in deployment. For reference, Koringal Valley is regarded as one of the toughest spots on the Afghani landscape, and these guys were doing trench warfare up a fucking mountain. This doco pulls no punches but by the same token doesn't sensationalise or offer opinions or context. Even the platoon seems to forget the cameras are rolling at times.
  7. Shit Haku, pardon the delay as I never saw your reply. What i mean is 'have downloaded but yet to watch'. And I know no plot twists, so if I'm understanding you correclty it might be worth watching the inferior Oblivion prior to Moon? A lot more structured & polished than his previous original content. Obviously it's countered by Mr ZOmbie routinely getting confused and thinking he's making a video for MTV and it's 1996 again, Megz felt the ending was anti-climatic but I thought it was punchy, and didn't go any further than required to tell the story.
  8. That sounds right That sounds wrong. From what I understood of it, Rhino is pretty much the same deal as Mac Gargan aka The Scorpion. Sealed in the suit for good. Except that Gargan clearly made it out at some point to become Venom. I defer to our resident SPidey expert Panch here, but I believe Rhino, just like Scorpion was also a Jameson-funded project. I wonder if that's how they'll bring Jonah into the fold as well?
  9. Timeloops are bullshit because they're too vulnerable to collapse and therefore paradox. Say I went back in time today and gave fifteen year old me a stack o'porn and a couple thousand dollars. I've now ensured my own survival at least to the age of 32 when I will then have to go back and blahblahblah, inspite of the changes I've wrought by changing the past. What will I do with the cash? Buy a fucking car or motorbike probably. What if 15 year old me decided to put it up his nose? Timeloops are predicated on unwavering pre-destiny and IMO there are way too many variables to factor segue to chaos theory. TL;DR TImeloops are rendered invalid by chaos theory. Therefore timelines branching from new events & choices as per ASC's image and whichever of you were arguing multiple timelines.
  10. What I watched of this season(I bailed as soon as I read puppets) seemed like they just didn't know what to do with Abed. Saying he's less crazy is like doing Fast and Furious in a different format and saying they didn't drive so fast. It's probable that this season stood up to comparison to other shows, but it's a pale shade of the Harmon seasons.
  11. Having recently rewatched Undeclared I saw a lot of overlap in terms of setting and tropes with Community, which i thought interesting. Freaks and Geeks is great stuff though.
  12. I'm only reading a few of these too, Thor's a standout though.
  13. Giamatti would have been my pick for that Peter Milligan story Flowers for Rhino. In a normal setting though, odd choice.
  14. No I'm talking about the original series. I've tried with the movies without success thusfar. Not dismissing them, just generally with things that don't grab me immediately I need a fan with me to help contextualise it all. And that... There's a place for that kinda stuff Be sure to let us know what you thought!
  15. Man the stupid thing is I fell off at a pretty damned exciting point, I simply was distracted and always have trouble coming back to something like that. From memory the last thing I read was Seems as good a time as any to restart from scratch.
  16. An error occurred You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day you cunt Fuckitoll. I owes yeh.
  17. ST 2009 made me go back and watch some Original Series, and what i took away from it/enjoyed of it was just the kitchy sci-fi and cautionary tales, much like Twilight Zone. The new movies don't have that, if that's what you mean. What's interesting and might make it worth your while to check it out FDB is the fact that it acknowledges exactly where it diverges from the universe you know And Spock's kind of the familiar face for the change. And Into Darkenss spoilers follow . And that was only the first instance of frontal male nudity. I feel like this is one of the most respectful 'reboots' I've seen.
  18. Guys. Guys. This thread's for the good Star Trek content/revised Universe. Can't we just talk about the JJ movies? Only half-trolling.
  19. Sadly this dropped off rotation when I stopped buying comics and downloading them instead. Infact i might even have an unread trade or two on the shelf. Gonna get back on it.
  20. I've just always guessed that anyone wanting to see an Aliens franchise film wasn't going to dig Prometheus because it's not the mediocre horseshit that follows Aliens the movie(by which I mean 3 & Resurrection). In terms of overhyped things I'm willing to call Aliens as a franchise down to the stage. Alien and Aliens were great, moody sci-fi horrors. The latter half was pretty average(Dead Space follows the same arc interestingly). I'd say the same about the entire Die Hard franchise too but I'll have to watch 'em before I start mouthing off about it.
  21. Which in turn reminds me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsfU0I2Mqfs I wanna say Parns & Bader are too dynamite a combo to beat though.
  22. Agh. I wanna engage based on having seen the second but it's kinda pointless since I don't wish to spoil. Lets just say that much like the first, they're definitely keeping an open line of communication with the 'verse you know, so if for whatever reason they decided to pull a Days of Future Past/ whichever ST movie where the first crew met TNG which i assume has happened, it's more than pheasible if possibly a little depressing for Kirk & Uhura since they haven't aged well.
