The Dark Knight Rises

Oh and a final point to almost evereybody in this thread:

Shut the fuck up, Nolan created one of the best comic book movies of all time and then created one of the greatest films of all time to follow up. He made possibly the best movie of last year, and has a pretty good record outside of these movies. So shut up, go the cinema when The Dark Knight Rises comes out, hand over your hard earned cash, watch one of the greatest comic book movies of all time, leave delighted, log on to Hondo's, admit you were an idiot for doubting Nolan in the first place.

Re: JGL's character...

I think Nolan intentionally left it open for WB to carry on the Batman franchise in his "Batverse" w/out a reboot. He did so by not only introducing Robyn John Blake (Tim Drake) but also by creating that completely forced and out of character schism between Alfred & Bruce so Alfred would be available to keep doing his Alfred thing for Batman v2.0.

If WB is smart they will just follow the literally billion dollar template Marvel Studios laid down over the past 5 years. If WB was smart, JGL's Robyn Blake will have a Batman flick out after Snyder's Superman then Snyder's Supes and JGL Bats will team up w/ Ryan Reynold's Hal Jordan in a Justice League film in 2014 where they battle SInestro's Yellow Lantern Corps. But they're not smart, so it'll likely never happen. :???:

The smart thing to do would to let sleeping dogs lie. WB owns all of these characters and they can't put decent movies out for 80% of them. Marvel's characters are spread over various companies (movie wise) and they are dishing em out better than we probably could have thought of. DKR needs to be Nolan's last Batman....

unless he does want to do another little movie with the same initials ;)

See, for years I was of the thought that this entire thing has been paving the road for a Dark Knight Returns movie. Or, at least, Nolan has been (not so) subtly setting it up for someone else to do.

Even the time jumps are established. You have the beginning, the seasoned crime fighter, his exit from the stage.

Then you have his return.

I realize that there's a certain suspension of disbelief that's required for movies, especially ones about men who dress up in costumes and punch people, but maybe some of you can clear up some small "c;mooooon" moments I had.

When Wayne Enterprises goes broke because of a bad trade, why the hell wouldn't they just point out that there was a known terrorist mucking about with the system the previous day and get it overturned? I'm sure there's some group in charge of shit like this that wouldn't allow it to happen. It seems absurd that a multimillion dollar corporation would just shrug and accept it without pitching a fucking fit.

Where the hell was that prison that bane took a quick break from terrorism to fly Bruce to? I assume it's in another country. They should make a movie about Bruce Wayne with no resources getting through customs and managing to get back to Gotham just in time.

Speaking of that prison, it seems to have no guards and an easily accessible means to escape AND free all the prisoners at the same time. That's just...what?

Send ALL THE COPS into the sewers? For real? Why would anyone do that?

Anyway, it's not like I'm all "Myeh, this movie is no good now", but it had me furrowing my brow in between the good parts.

<p>Bahaha, I was dwelling on that desert prison place for awhile, but it was pointed out to me that from the time Bane broke Bats' back to Wayne getting back to Gotham, it was about 5 months. As for where it was, I have no clue, but I can buy that 5 months is plenty of time for all of that shit to go down. I can also buy that maybe it was south of the border, and maybe he sneaked his way back across? Yeah... I'll just tell myself that. <br></p><p><br></p><p>You're the second person who's pointed out the money stuff too. I assume that they would get around to saying "hey, those terrorists stole it", but yea it doesn't make much sense. </p>

get out of the way because it is a massive fight only joking it is just my picture that i gone and done of bat man and the idiot thief bane from the new black knight film that i saw in the pictures the other day with my mums friend from her work. i loved the film so much because of all of the fighting bits and the violent kicking and my best bit was when bat man was flying through the sky like a massive black crow but my best bit was when bat man kept on telling bane that he hated his mask and he was saying that it just looks really old fashioned and bane kept on saying that he hates bat mans helmet and then bane said that he is going to kill bat mans wife and children if he says anything about him again and then bat man went to say something but he didnt say anything because he just moved his mouth so it looked like he was saying you are really fat and he was laughing when he was doing it and it was making bane so mad and then bane put his tongue really slowly out of his mask so that bat man knew that he hated him so much and i liked the ending as well because it was really good when bat man woke up at the end of the film and it was all just a dream and he was actually a little boy and his mum came in to his room and she said what is wrong honey and he said nothing mum i was just dreaming that i was a bat and then his mum touched his face with 3 of her fingers and she said dont be silly you are not a bat you are just a 8 year old boy and then he said thank you mum in slow motion and then the film finished and i just went back to my house. Hey, forum, it's been a while. well, Summer vacation and the desire to flame about a comic book movie can only lead to one place!

I'm honestly surprised at the balls to the wall positive reactions to this one. I found it enjoyable enough, but boy was this movie trying to be a hell of a lot more than it really was.

I feel like Nolan's Batman films aspire to be serious, intelligent films, and while the cinematography and certain aspects of the design achieve an effective tone, the scripts and direction are often convoluted or downright dumb. I found the first half of this to be a smart enough crime drama with some interesting characters and performances/ but little by little the thing just gets dumb. Bane is this moustache twirling, cookie cutter villian who talks mad shit constantly about absolutely nothing. We don't get a performance that we can see or hear, and we basically have a super buff man who snaps lots of necks and talks about cliched super villain stuff. I thought he might have had some kind of motivation or something when he started spouting Occupy-isms but he didn't elaborate very much on that and in the end there was a pretty shallow reason for the bad folks to want to nuke a city. Not exactly the interesting psychology that I enjoy about most Batman villians, and a villian that is completely out of place in a movie that is trying to be this serious.

Eventually Batman is in some preposterous prison with super nice people and his very Yoda-like roommate gives him a schpeal about fear so he can train and climb out of a hole. If this was in any other movie it would be stupid. It is stupid in this movie. We also have an army of cops charging into gunfire, and a massive fistfight between a shitton of people who have guns. There is a lot of silly shit in the second half of this movie and when silly voice Batman and silly voice Bane are in a room together, I am absolutely unable to take this thing seriously.

I was also reminded that i don't love Nolan's action scenes. A lot of unclear geography; I don't know who is where and people just kinda get shot and fall and you just figure someone somewhere shot em. Batman and Catwoman just kind of grab people by the arm and they drop their guns and fall over. The fights between Batman and Bane are basically turn based, and they fight like they're in fat suits. I like the vehicle stuff and I love that he uses miniatures and lots of practical effects, but everything else falls flat for me.

That all being said, I didn't hate the movie. A lot of the performances were very good. Hathaway especially surprised me. The cinematography and score did a lot that I feel the script didn't in terms of making it feel moody and epic. I also felt like this one might have had the most laughs and slightly lighthearted bits (mostly thanks to Catwoman). There were things to enjoy about the movie and I did not hate sitting through it, but I really don't think it accomplished what it set out to do and made for an uneven and anticlimactic experience.

This is why nothing in the Batman Trilogy looks completely stupid or like a cartoon. Nolan only uses CG combined with things that he actually shot. It also helps the action maintain the look of the rest of the film because everything is actually shot by the director and lit by the same crew that has been lighting everything else.

Between his approach to VFX and his "fuck you it's shot on film and it's not in 3d" attitude I definitely have mad respect for Nolan; while I definitely have my issues with his movies, he does seem to have some serious integrity for a guy who's making enormous budget films about Batman.

I fucking love JunkerSeed.

I'm no good at reviews (with more than 3 words) because I have a hard time properly expressing why I feel a certain way about things sometimes. Not that I agree with him 100%, but there are some parts where he literally took the words out of my mouth.

Not enough +1's.

FInally got to it.

I loved how much they drew from DKR for this. You have Selena living in old Gotham with a half-midget sidekick(I spent a lot of time waiting for her to go SEL-IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINA), alluded to prostitution(thanks Frank) and a complicated thing with Wayne. Alfred more or less takes an exit stage left, we see the tell-tale moe on Bruce before he shaves it to find a 'good death' and we also got the extended sabatical in the first place. Best of all though? The end with the orphanage and what is absolutely going to be a training facility, complete with faked Bruce Wayne Death. Henry Cavill winked at me, in my head anyways as Gordon read the Eulogy.

There was some Knightfall stuff I would have loved to have seen(I'll be honest, i wanted Shiva titties), but working that particular arc into the centre of DKR, along with Death of the Maidens bringing us the probable joy of Damien Wayne, it's gonna be a tragedy to see them reboot or worse, a way less able creative team fuck up all this good work. As the credits rolled I turned to Alana and said 'this is just the beginning'. I then peed in my Batman soda cup because I'd been there 3 hours and really didn't want to miss a post-credit shot of Tim in a Domino mask. Good tiemz

Also, every scene shot from behind of Selina Kyle on that bike... We need a gif for that ASAP.

Dark Knight XXX

Seriously, I don't know whose bright idea it was for the first sex scene to be based on The Killing Joke, but that was probably not the best choice.

And when I say that it's based on The Killing Joke, I mean that it's a full-on homage, right down to the Joker's goons locking a naked Commissioner Gordon (Tom Byron) in a cage in a creepy funhouse. The only thing it doesn't have is a musical number about the benefits of insanity.

[John] Constantine (Clarke Kent) (yes, really) is also a highlight, possibly because he's one of the few characters that you can believe beyond a shadow of a doubt would show up in a porn version of the DC Universe. Kent honestly looks like he just stepped off a page of Hellblazer, and I'm going to go ahead and say it: This is the single best performance of John Constantine that has ever made it to film. Maybe he'll get a spin-off movie with the rest of the Vertigo characters.

Hell, Braun might even be able to get Alan Moore to sign off on that one.

Spoilers kinda?

You know, I listened to an interview about that batman pr0n. The director tried to raise the bar on porn production standards for this type o thing (including the writing) and truth be told...

the dark knight mask reminded me of andy sandberg the entire time.

I think you need not worry about reboots after this set of batman movies.. It seems DC is trying hard to raise the bar after the governator mutilated mr freeze, not to mention thugs-on-ice.

And you know what.. I thought catwoman in this had 0 sex appeal. if someone could prove me wrong with a jigglly gif i would greatly appreciate this.

I second this. That initial shot i think was the best, where she just cozies right the fuck into the lucky winner of the bikeseat lottery. But yeah. Hathaway has an amazing rack that was greatly underused in this movie which is slightly criminal,

Also- I had the exact thought about the nose on the mask. Damned Jew media manipulating the Batman

Finally caught this and loved it. The Batman franchise proceeded nicely in quality for me. Felt pretty "meh" on Begins, enjoyed The Dark Knight, and loved this one. Lets get my complaints out of the way since that's what you all skim my posts for anyway:

Okay first of all, if terrorists raid the stock exchange then I'm pretty sure that everybody who had stocks trading there gets a free pass even if their thumbprint was used to buy some company ruining stocks. Secondly when Bane asks "How much longer will this take" and the guy says "8 more minutes" they leave the building in MID-DAY and seven minutes later it's pitch-black outside. What the fuck?

I don't mind the whole Batman getting back to America thing because I can believe that Bruce would be smart enough to keep a "in case of having my back broken and thrown in a Turkish Prison" fund. But they could have shown how the fuck he just strolled right on back into Gotham City.

How did the football players not notice the loud-ass explosions behind them? Why did the rapidly cracking ice whenever Gordon was exiled just suddenly stop cracking once Batman showed up? How did 11 minutes last for about 25?

This isn't so much a gripe as it was an observation, but Batman was barely in this movie and when he was he didn't do many great things. He fought Bane twice and neither time felt suitably epic. I just never felt he got his badass due at any point in the movie. Also: the voice wasn't as intrusive in this one but I was giggling like a bitch when he was all "WHARS THE DEBENNEBER! TERLL MREE!" and it certainly hasn't improved.[/spoilers]

I sincerely hope that somebody talks Nolan out of leaving, because that'd be a damn shame. [spoilers]Give us a Nightwing movie, or even just give us a movie that starts out with John Blake. The Joker is still alive and Blake is basically Jason Todd by way of Tim Drake anyway, and we could do a Death in the family. Hey, we could even wait a few years and just turn it into a "The Dark Knight Returns" movie. That, to me, would be wrapping things up with a bow. Hell Catwoman's annoying blonde friend could even be Stephanie Brown.
