Silent Bob Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Bass didn't do the Edmond poster. He died, what, more than ten years ago? But it's certainly somewhat inspired by him. Also check out the poster for Clockers for an even more direct homage. My favorite of his was always:
Ganny McVagflaps Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Bass didn't do the Edmond poster. He died, what, more than ten years ago? Am I the only one who thought that Edmond didn't have enough usage of the "N-Word"? Stupid Mamet keeps tricking me 'cause I think I'm gonna get me some Glengarry Glen Ross, but then end up with...well, Edmond. Stupid Edmond.
Dark Kaniggit Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Bass didn't do the Edmond poster. He died, what, more than ten years ago? Yeah, I know he did not do the Edmond poster, I should have specified he didn't, I was pretty tired. It is deffinitely inspired by him. As a side note, did you Bass assisted in the main title animations for Psycho, and Anatomy of a Murder. Another one my favorite posters for Michael Mann's "The Insider" shows that less is more If you remember that film is about a Big Tobacco whistle blower, to me the poster resembles a cigarette warning. AND FOR THE RECORD, SILENT BOB HAS THE MAN CRUSH ON MR. SCIENTOLOGY!
Silent Bob Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Only his profile. Bass designed those titles from start to finish. He really was a master of titles. Psycho's titles still look great today. Speaking of Psycho, they say he co-directed the shower sequence and helped Hitchcock determine where to edit to both appease the censors and get the most impact out of the scene. Any man that Hitchcock turns to for help is a freakin' god of design! That Insider poster is fantastic. I'd never seen that one before.
Dark Kaniggit Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Your knowledge of design is impressive Silent Bob. I speak to you as a fellow designer a one who appreciates good art. I sometimes write from the perspective that my audience is not well versed in art, clearly that is not the case with you. I will from this point on speak as though I am speaking to a well read audience. Anyway... one more A true classic often imitated, here's one by my favorite band Pearl Jam (I own this one by the way)
Reverend Jax Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Calling 'Blue' a theme is hardly fair, and the last poster under 'Blue' wasn't even blue. Other than that, that's pretty funny.
Thelogan Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 A solid half of the posters under the "through the legs" category begin with the words "National Lampoons".
The NZA Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 blue's a theme though, man - didnt i post something here (or another poster thread) a while back about how blue and orange were becoming default colors for these things?
Thelogan Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 You did, somewhere. Ended with a "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"
Mr. Hakujin Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 blue's a theme though, man - didnt i post something here (or another poster thread) a while back about how blue and orange were becoming default colors for these things? Yup, you certainly did. That's the first thing I thought of when I clicked on the pic. It's probably in movie blargh...
Visitant Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I also own this one. <3 love this movie so much.
Thelogan Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 There's more Eisner in the poster than there was in the entirety of the movie.
Mr. Hakujin Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I also own this one. <3 love this movie so much. If you or anyone else is interested, I've the lenticular version of this poster I'd be willing to sell.
Iambaytor Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I've always had an affinity for this one: It shares some similarities with the Star Wars poster but I think it's really well-done and crisp and gets the point across about what this movie is going to be about. The batshit crazy Japanese version has merit as well: Like anything Japanese, it doesn't make very much sense but it has bright colors and a chainsaw so we forgive it. Speaking of posters that evoke the spirit and contents of the movie: Fucking love this poster, wish it was used more on DVD versions. Then there's this beauty: I've got a copy of this signed by the directors and I love pretty much everything about it. The crude drawings, the outline, the "KILL WOMEN" superimposed on the aviators, the title font, and especially the eye-searing neon pink color they used. The simplified version has its charms as well. P.S. Hakujin - how much are you wanting for that Frighteners poster?
Mr. Hakujin Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 PM me. I'll give you the fremesis price.
Thelogan Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Some new posters All fake, btw. The guy does some good work.
Panch Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 All fake?! Aw man. Three of those I REALLY wanted to fucking see :(
Mr. Hakujin Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Whoa. That is fantastic. Is that legit or a fan pic? If it's legit, then I have been given hope Fox's marketing team at least knows what the tone of a real Wolverine film should be.
Thelogan Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I think that was legit, it's been a bit though so don't quote me. Also, that poster formula Jax posted really nails it. Especially with the first 2.
Thelogan Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Not a movie poster, but still cool. http://ns223506.ovh.net/rozne/2d69c862a8731114c27111e2537b7247/wallpaper-1178637.jpg
