Thelogan
Oh thank god! I was really worried there for a minute. Neither of those movies blew my mind either. Also note, I said that before it was released, based entirely on trailers. Some Hondonians with reliable taste had an enjoyable time, so it probably isn't terrible. It's not a theater movie for me though.
the division of joy
I really quite liked it. Take that as you wish.
Reverend Jax
Really, the first times you saw Star Wars and The Matrix, you were all "meh" about them? I get that over time a lot of the wow factor fades, but you were never impressed by them at all?
Thelogan
I was 26 when I saw Star Wars. I thought the first two Matrix movies where and are pretty cool, but they didn't leave me in awe or anything. The premise is almost a pulp sci-fi trope and felt cliche to me. Nothing wrong with that, I like pulp sci-fi.
the division of joy
I'm still yet to watch Jedi, I've been that underwhelmed at star wars.
Keth
I'd go as far to say it was the best Spider-Man movie. Part 2 just happened to be on tv yesterday, and i watched the second half of it, and it's so damn corny. It's still great action movie, and the best of the first trilogy, but I guess I forgot how over the top the performances were. I also never realized how absent Spidey's trashtalking was during fights. He spouts off some one liners, but he isn't constantly quipping like you'd expect. Reverend Jax
Yeah, Spidey's trademark taunting of criminals and villains made a welcome and long-overdue film debut in this movie. Andrew Garfield is still too pretty to be Peter Parker, and he was written too brooding, but I really thought he was going to be unrecognizable as Peter Parker, but way more of the character's core was there than I expected. The NZA
agreed he was pretty & brooding (twilight crowd crossover i guess?), few things: + his wisecracking was nice, couldve gone for more of it i also liked how they had him smart/use science a bit lizard-face wasnt entirely as awful as id imagined dennis leary is always a highlight martin sheen was a fantastic uncle ben non-organic web shooters woooo fight scenes with the lizard went better than id hoped/good choreography stone > dunst, especially by part 3 - what jax said never really care for all the tying into peter's parents his high school friends are dumber than usual for not connecting the dots. related: holy crap how does he keep his identity secret at all, took off his mask to show off his hair every chance he got we're kinda running low on his better villains, i hope panch is wrong and vulture's not on deck leary inevitably dies/again, peter gonna wish he kept that promise more stuff im forgetting better than id expected overall, though! Keth
Yeah, whenever he was out of costume he was broody as all hell, but it fit the for the movie. Dude loses his parents young for unknown reasons, he's treated like a bitch at school, and Uncle Ben dies. He had a right to be. That said, hopefully they lighten it up for a sequel. Though it seems people are wanting to make things darker than the last thing on everything :/ not everything has to be depressing!
The NZA
i guess that's true. thinking back on it, it was pretty by the #'s though - here's a mysterious case file so you go explore oscorp and get bitten; here's a machine your dad made to spread contagion boy i hope that don't get misused also, who ya'll think we saw in that cell with lizzy? im assuming osborn, panch was wondering if it was the vulture or whoever's next in the sinister six. Keth
I thought Osborne as well. Michael Massee was credited as an in shadows. Sounds familiar as hell and looks like he could play the part, but it could be anyone really. Osborne was supposed to be dying here though right? Possibly inactive... I'd like to see Morbius myself. Visitant
Yeah I think it was osborne. Also i heard they might want to go for six movies and do a sinister six thing by the end of it

Panch
Probably Osborn, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Vulture. Here's my theory: there was more than just one scientist working with Richard Parker. Six others, in fact (and I wouldn't be surprised if there was 5 others and he was the 6th). I mean, Richard was working on animal/human splicing, right? Most these guys are going to be animal themed. Lizard, vulture, rhino, octopus. I say we'll see the Sinister Six by the post credit in part 2. Oh and I LOVED the movie, too
Reverend Jax
I say there's going with the Chris Nolan reboot strategy, launch the rebooted universe with a villain the moving going public hasn't seen, and queue up the sequel to that reboot to bring back the most iconic villain from the hero's rogues gallery that was seen in the original movie series' first installment. For Batman, that was the Joker, and in Spider-Man that's the Green Goblin. Plus, come on, we have a living Gwen Stacy and a Peter Parker that could be happy with her, that's like a Green Goblin calling card! Let's just say that I think predicting the next villain should be a...snap.... Edited July 6, 2012 by Reverend Jax
IceManML
You know I thought spiderman was too "mature" when he was do-gooding in the last 3 films. So when I see a trailer of him jokin around at the expense of a bad guy, that kinda interested me (tho the joking looks mad fake). I'll be seein this movie this weekend. Ty for the spoiler tags. Dag
I have been reading the reviews and this movie looks terrible.
Keth
It indeed could've been very terrible. (SPOILERS IN THAT THAR LINK) All the reviews I've been reading are how it's too soon for a reboot and that somehow makes the movie bad. It seemed "too soon" for a hulk reboot too, but look how that turned out.
IceManML
yea but the 1st hulk was str8 up TERRIBLE. The spiderman movies were friken awesome (especially, the battle scenes are to die for, no matter how CGI it was). If they're able to reproduce at least that in this 1, I wont have a gripe. I totally agree, but you can also look at this as the Spiderman comic vs the "Amazing Spiderman" where they were connecting story lines but reserved the right to change things up disregarding the other series. I'm still making my peace with it though.
Iambaytor
i would too, but don't tell baytor. I'd long suspected that this thread was just everyone trolling. Now I know. I'll watch a Man-Mountain Marko movie before I happily see Morbius brought to the silver screen. He works in Marvel Zombies and Legion of Monsters, strangely. Mr. Hakujin
Probably Osborn, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Vulture. I mean, Richard was working on animal/human splicing, right? Most these guys are going to be animal themed. Lizard, vulture, rhino, octopus. I say we'll see the Sinister Six by the post credit in part 2. Oh and I LOVED the movie, too Ditto. Loved it as well. Saw it in IMAX 3D w/ the nephew and the stupidly overpriced ticket was well worth it. Me: One adult and one child, please. Teller: That'll be $26.50. Me: I thought it did a good job of following the formula of the first Raimi film, but it kept things fresh. Not necessarily better in some cases, but still different. Keeping it all in the high school was initially a sore spot for some fans *cough* Panch*cough* but I think it worked really well. It allowed for the Gwen/Peter romance to develop naturally. SONY announced already they will do a Garfield trilogy, so the franchise w/ him has got potential even though his performance was the least desirable thing about the film for me. That guy may have early onset Parkinson's or something; he is one twitchy motherfucker. Hopefully they will keep Emma Watson's Gwen Stacey around as well. As for your spoiler theory, Panch: I think you're on to something there. It would be great to see a totally new Spidey villain in the second film and then have the third film play out the Death of Gwen Stacey story (or some iteration of) w/ the Green Goblin. I am a bit disappointed they let Gwen forgive Peter so quickly. It was a clever line at the end, a nice way to give it a happy ending. However, I was hoping to make the Peter Parker personal life more interesting they'd do a whole Gwen/ Flash, Peter/MJ love-quadrangle. Still could happen, I guess... Bottom line is Sony & Mark Webb did their jobs. They delivered a solid reboot w/ a plotline that fans are interested to see continued.
